Yan Yan - Chapter 7

Chapter 7 – Run Together
Su Yan was scared and embarrassed at the same time when she saw the man’s face.
The appearance of Bai Xingfan was unexpected, and Su Yan had never thought that she would meet him in this kind of miserable situation. It was as if the last fig leaf had been stripped off without warning; her downfall, frustration, and unbearable news were all exposed in front of him in an instant.
Su Yan had already expected that he would question why she was there except in the wedding hall and give her a sympathetic yet critical glance, just like the other visitors in the banquet hall, which she didn’t need at all.
“Why? Don’t you want to ask anything?” Su Yan’s voice was trembling, and there was helplessness and unconcealable pleading in her tone.
Bai Xingfan frowned slightly and asked softly, “What do you want me to ask?”
Su Yan was stunned because she had never thought that Bai Xingfan would talk in such a gentle tone. She stared blankly at Bai Xingfan, both grateful and guilty. It was also at this time that she realised that Bai Xingfan was different from those guests; he would not push her into a corner with a pitiful look, let alone ask some embarrassing questions. He was simply caring about her.
“Thank you.” She thanked him sincerely.
Bai Xingfan reminded her in a gentle voice. “It’s raining heavily here.”
He tilted the umbrella in his hand towards her, and the torrential rain no longer hit her but drenched him.
Su Yan felt a little apologetic in her heart after seeing that.
In just two or three minutes, his black, thick, and short hair was already drenched; it was sticking to his white forehead in strands. The raindrops flowed down his temples and slid along his clear jawline to his chin.
The black suit he was wearing was completely wet, especially on the shoulders and back. The cold raindrops were still dripping down his knuckles and wrists into the shirt cuffs. But actually, this man didn’t look like a wet crow after being drenched in such heavy rain. He looked as handsome and elegant as before, despite the fact that he had been drenched.
“Please go away. Su Yan understood Bai Xingfan’s kindness but couldn’t accept it. After all, the two of them didn’t know each other very well. “I’m fine. I… I’ll be home in a while.” But she knew clearly that it was impossible to go home by herself, and she dared not go home.
Although she was the victim, she was the most ashamed one in this situation, and not only her but also the entire Su family. Hence, she couldn’t face her parents, especially her grandmother, who was always odd with her family.
Although Su Yan grew up with her grandmother, who was her father’s mother, their relationship was not good because her grandmother was patriarchal, only loved Su Yan’s younger brother, and always tried to find faults in Su Yan. So if she returned home in such a situation, she would definitely be criticised by her grandmother, and she would be blamed for what happened today. Because of that, Su Yan really didn’t want to go home. If there was a box, she would even want to seal herself in an airtight box, hiding from the sun, avoiding the sympathetic eyes of those people, avoiding relatives and friends, and avoiding the fact of being abandoned until everyone forgets about it. But to her surprise, Bai Xingfan didn’t leave, didn’t say much, and quietly helped shelter her from the rain.
When Su Yan tried to persuade him to leave, suddenly she heard her brother Su Zhan’s panicked voice from not far away: “Sister! Sister… Where are you?”
Yao Anan’s voice came after that: “Yanyan! Where are you, Yanyan? Don’t take it too seriously! Xie Yu, that jerk, if he’s got a thousand knives, isn’t worth it!”
It was her younger brother and best friend looking for her. She understood that they cared about her sincerely, but she didn’t want to see them at all. Therefore, she would rather leave with a stranger than face an acquaintance.
She knew in her heart that once the two of them discovered her, she would instantly transform into a resentful woman, cry, tell them her grievances, and no longer muster up the courage to take a step forward.
She wanted to step forward with dignity.
But where could she hide now?
All of a sudden, she stood up and began to look left and right to find a new hiding place, panicking to the extreme.
Just when she was at a loss, Bai Xingfan stretched out a hand in front of her and said in a gentle but firm voice, “Don’t be afraid; there is me.”
Su Yan was stunned, looking at him with teary eyes.
Bai Xingfan was looking at her with his dark and deep eyes, like an ancient well and a secluded pool—bottomless, frightening, but irresistible.
Suddenly, she held out her hand to him. As soon as the two got into the car, the driver stepped on the accelerator. Not long after the car drove out, Su Yan saw his younger brother, Su Zhan. The black Bentley passed the teenager, but the window was covered with anti-spy stickers, so the teenager could not see the people in the car.
Su Zhan continued to search for his sister, ignoring the fact that it was still raining heavily, he had no umbrella at all, and he was already completely soaked. While sprinting in the rain, he called his sister and continued to scan the street.
After seeing her poor brother, the tip of Su Yan’s nose felt sour. She never thought that her brother, this silly Baitian, would treat her so well.
The silly Baitian had been their family’s treasure since he was a child, and both his parents and grandma loved him. She was sent to live with her grandmother in her hometown while her brother went to the city with their parents; their grandmother never beat or reprimanded him and left him all the delicious food and drink, and she was not even allowed to taste it because she was a loser and didn’t deserve to eat her snacks. For a long time in the past, she had been jealous of her brother.
She vividly recalls a Chinese New Year when she was a small girl. She ate an Oreo that her mother had bought for her younger brother in secret. She had never eaten one before, but sadly, her grandma had caught her. So the elderly woman struck her with the rolling pin she was holding. If she hadn’t moved quickly, the rolling pin would have struck her in the skull rather than the shoulders. And it took a whole month for the blue-purple mark left on her shoulder to disappear. From then on, she began to hate her grandmother and her younger brother.
She felt that her younger brother took away her parents’ love. Without this younger brother, her parents would only love her and take her to Dongfu, and Grandma would not bully her unscrupulously.
But what she didn’t expect was that this younger brother, whom she had disliked and hated for many years, cared a lot about her.
Guilt and self-blame arose spontaneously. She felt that she was sorry for her brother and that she was not a good sister. She could have treated him better, but she didn’t. She would only secretly dislike him, be jealous of him, and despise him.
Sucking her sour nose, Su Yan turned her head to look at Bai Xingfan, who was sitting next to her, and asked shyly, “Can I borrow your mobile phone?”
It was inconvenient to bring a mobile phone with her into the wedding hall, so she handed her mobile phone to Yao Anan before the wedding banquet started.
“Yes.” Bai Xingfan took out his mobile phone from the inner pocket of his suit and handed it to Su Yan.
Su Yan took the phone, looked at him gratefully, and said it again from the bottom of her heart. “Thank you.”
‘Thank you very much. Otherwise, I will not be able to maintain my last shred of decency and dignity.’
Bai Xingfan looked gently and smiled slightly. “It’s just a little effort.”
Su Yan hesitated to speak and finally picked up the phone first, and the moment the screen turned on, Bai Xingfan’s voice sounded in the car. “The password is 101011. ”
His voice was low and gentle, like jade in the rough, warming from the touch.
Su Yan was grateful once more, this time for his thoughtfulness in never embarrassing her.
He was probably the most understanding man she had ever met in her life.
“Thank you.” She thanked him again and then entered the password to open the screen and quickly sent a message to Su Zhan: “Don’t look for me; I’m fine. You go home quickly; it’s raining.”
After sending the message, Su Yan returned the phone to Bai Xingfan.
However, just as Bai Xingfan was going to put the phone into his pocket, the screen lit up, and a call was coming from an unknown number.
Su Yan recognised the number at a glance; it was Su Zhan. She didn’t want to answer it, but she had to; otherwise, Su Zhan would definitely think that she had been kidnapped.
Sighing lightly, she had no choice but to ask Bai Xingfan: “That’s my brother; please pick it up for me, tell him I’m fine, and let him go home quickly.”
“Okay.” Bai Xingfan gave her an indifferent glance, pressed the answer button, and turned on the speakerphone so that she could hear their conversation.
In the next second, the boy’s shout resounded throughout the car: “Sister?! Is that my sister? I’m your younger brother! Your brother!”
Su Yan: …
She was dumbfounded.
Bai Xingfan replied softly, “Your sister is fine now; don’t worry.”
“Who the hell are you?” The boy didn’t feel relieved but became more and more anxious and irritable. “You won’t kidnap my sister, right? I’ll tell you that now society is ruled by the law! There are CCTVs everywhere; I advise you to let her go quickly! Or you will be in big trouble.”
Bai Xingfan: “…”
Su Yan: “…” ‘This guy really did not live up to her expectations at all.’
In desperation, she had no choice but to open her mouth and say to the phone, “I’m not kidnapped; don’t think about it; go home quickly.”
“Sister!!” The young man was so excited. “Is it really my sister? Where are you now?”
Su Yan: “With a friend, you don’t have to worry.”
Su Zhan: “Sister… But I want to find you.”
“Don’t come to me, I just want to be alone now. You go and tell Dad and Mom that I’m safe and not to worry.” After finishing speaking, Su Yan stretched out her hand and pressed the hang-up button, and then she said to Bai Xingfan, “If he calls again, don’t answer.”
Bai Xingfan: “You are not afraid that he will be afraid?”
“He…” Su Yan didn’t know how to explain this to Bai Xingfan. “If you call him, he will automatically classify you as a good person.”
Bai Xingfan was startled. “I don’t look like a good person?”
Su Yan was also startled and quickly explained. “No, I didn’t mean that; I mean he will not treat you as an outsider; he will keep calling you to inquire about my situation and will disturb you.”
Bai Xingfan understood. “It’s okay; I’m just reporting your safety; he won’t disturb me.”
Su Yan felt grateful and was touched again. “Thank you.”
Bai Xingfan said calmly, “You don’t need to say thank you anymore.”
Su Yan was speechless for a moment, feeling a little embarrassed.
From getting in the car to now, she had said thank you many times, but apart from verbal thanks, could she do anything to repay him? ‘It seems impossible. If I say thank you a few more times, he will probably be tired of hearing it.’
She also didn’t want to be bothered.
Just let him stop at the intersection in front of her. Then she’d get out of the car, not wanting to bother him any longer.
After making up her mind, she cut straight to the point and said, “Just park in front.”
Bai Xingfan turned his face away and stared at her without saying a word.
His eyes were deep, his thin lips were tightly pursed, and his aura was cold. Su Yan suddenly felt a sense of oppression that could not be described in words and subconsciously held his breath.
A few seconds later, he finally opened his mouth and asked in a deep voice, “It’s raining so hard; where are you going?”
Su Yan was speechless again.
She had nowhere to go.
Bai Xingfan: “Then sit in the car obediently.”
Su Yan: “…”
‘You really don’t look like a good person right now.’ Pursing her lips uneasily, she asked in a low voice, “Where are you taking me?”
Bai Xingfan: “My home.”
