Chapter 15.1

In this double inspection of hygiene and appearance in the whole school, Class 7 of Grade 3 crushed its rival Class 9 with a high score of 9.9 and won the little red flag.

Lu Yuling received this honour because he did a good job cleaning the window and didn’t cause any problems for the class. The class teacher, Lao Zhou, even praised him publicly. Even the older students praised his new hairstyle, saying he looked handsome.

It felt good to be recognised, but Lu Yuling was not satisfied with it because Li Xining hadn’t praised him yet. He didn’t expect any rewards, like hugs. He just wanted to hear “handsome,” no matter what.

However, class leader Li never praised him—not even a hint in her eyes.

Princess Lu had been looking forward to it for a whole week. He couldn’t wait any longer and finally complained on the way home from school one night. “Can’t you see that I got a haircut?”

Li Xining understood what he was saying, but she purposely acted like she didn’t know. “I saw it; I saw it a while ago.”

Lu Yuling was not happy and said, “So, you didn’t say anything about it. Does that even make sense?”

In reality, she wanted to say nice things about him. But ever since Lu Yuling cut his hair, girls from different grades have been approaching him to ask for his phone number. It was past nine o’clock at night, there were few people and vehicles on the road, and the street lights were dim, making the two of them’s silhouettes reflect on the ground very long.

As soon as Lu Yuling fell silent, the whole world fell silent in an instant, and it seemed that only the sound of wheels rubbing against the ground was left.

Li Xining was a little guilty, as if she had hurt the little princess’s heart. After hesitating for a while, she suddenly squeezed the brakes, stepped on the ground, stopped on the side of the road, and called out, “Lu Yuling.”

Lu Yuling hurriedly stopped the bicycle and turned to look at her. “What’s wrong?”

Li Xining: “You come back.”

Lu Yuling wondered, “What are you doing?”

Li Xining: “If I tell you to come back, you will come back. Why are you talking so much?”

“Okay…” Lu Yuling stepped on the ground with his feet, backing up to Li Xining with his bicycle, and just as he stopped, he heard Li Xining say in a very small voice. “It’s very handsome.”

Her tone was very light and soft, like a gust of warm wind in the silent night.

Lu Yuling was taken aback for a moment, as if he had won the lottery by surprise.

Li Xining’s cheeks were slightly flushed, but she was actually a little embarrassed, so she quickly changed the subject. “So you have to keep at it, and don’t hold back the class!”

Lu Yuling let out a “tsk” and said it dissatisfiedly. “Look at you, how can you start ideological education after half of the praise?”

Li Xining suppressed a smile. “Then do you accept it? If you don’t accept it, I will take it back. The compliment!”

Lu Yuling hurriedly said “I accept, I unconditionally accept all the ideological guidance of Squad Leader Li.”

Li Xining was finally amused by him. “I remember what you said; you are a puppy if you lie to others.”

Lu Yuling frowned slightly. “Aren’t I already a puppy?”

“You’re quite proud?” Li Xining rolled her eyes at him, then reached out to him and said, “Give me your schoolbag.”

Although he didn’t know why she wanted the schoolbag, Lu Yuling took it off his shoulders and handed it to her.

Li Xining held Lu Yuling’s schoolbag in one hand, reached into the school uniform pocket with the other hand, took out a pink bunny keychain, and hung the pink rabbit on the zipper of Lu Yuling’s schoolbag.

This rabbit was one of the pair of rabbits she snatched back from Han Qiaowei after school last Saturday.

After hanging up the rabbit, she returned the schoolbag to Lu Yuling. “Reward. Your haircut gift.”

Lu Yuling’s school bag was a black Adidas clover; it seemed to be suitable for young boys at first, but when she hung a small pink bunny on it, it looked really girlish. It looked like a bag that a girl would carry to school.

He knew that there were two rabbits, and one of them was white. He asked nicely if he could have the white one.

Li Xining was not kind and said, “You look good in pink.”

Lu Yuling was unsure about what to say and asked, “What do you mean?”

Li Xining glared at him in disgust and said, “It’s because you are acting like a stubborn and difficult person, like a little princess.”

Lu Yuling was quiet for a little while. “Then I’ll get a tiger for you tomorrow.” Right after he said that, he quickly started pedalling and ran away.

Li Xining quickly understood what he meant and became very angry at Lu Yuling.

There was a red light up ahead. After passing the intersection and walking another 50 metres, they reached the entrance of the community. Lu Yuling stopped by pressing the brakes on the bicycle. Li Xining hurriedly caught up but didn’t pay any attention to him. Li Xining’s cheeks were still a bit puffed up. ‘Do you still believe that I’m aggressive or intimidating?’

Knowing that she was angry, Lu Yuling began to coax people. “Hey, look at you. Are you thinking too much? Is I giving you a tiger to scold you? I mean, you are as vigorous and majestic as a tiger. It is a compliment, not a derogation.”

Li Xining still ignored him.

Lu Yuling had to keep persuading, saying, “What is the matter with the tiger? Isn’t the tiger kind and gentle? You are definitely the nicest woman I have ever met.”

Li Xining looked at him and said, “It looks like you’ve been with many women in the last two days. Have you learned anything from it?”

Lu Yuling looked surprised and then smiled proudly and somewhat satisfied, saying, “You seem jealous.”

Li Xining turned red and started feeling very warm, almost like being in a heated room. It looked like her cheeks were on fire, starting from her chin and going up to her ears. She even wanted to be like an ostrich and hide her head in the ground. She felt odd because she had never struggled to control herself before. It was like something hidden deep in her heart had been revealed, and she hadn’t known she had a secret before that.

Luckily, the traffic light changed from red to green, and at that exact moment, she felt like she was rescued or saved. She was too scared to look at Lu Yuling anymore, so she pedalled fast and rode quickly towards the community gate.

Lu Yuling noticed that she was shy, so he didn’t follow her. He sighed softly, placed his wrists on the handlebars, watched her enter the community gate, and then sat up straight on the bicycle. He waited for the traffic light on the left to turn red. Once it did, he crossed the road, turned around, and rode in the opposite direction.
