You hidden in my heart - Chapter 20.2
Chapter 20.2
In fact, Li Xining was not a spoiled, rich young lady. Grandpa Li just said that because he wanted Lu Yuling to treat his granddaughter better at school.
Lu Yuling also understood what the old man meant, but he still stiffened unexpectedly because of the sentence, “Her father left early.”
Li Xining never told him about that, just like he never told her that his mother was gone.
With a sigh, Grandpa Li repeated what he had just stated, saying, “She is a little strong, and she will not bring this up with you. Her father left when she was only ten years old. Her grandmother and I are concerned about her every day because she is a girl without a father. She had been bullied, and it was not easy for her.”
Dark clouds appeared on Lu Yuling’s face at once. “Who is it?”
“You must not know her; that girl’s father is Zhao Hailan.” Mr. Li said, waving his hand. “Since she was a little child, her mother has spoiled her. She used to beat Xining when Xining was a child. Once, our Xining was slapped by her mother in public because of that girl, and her grandmother and I were heartbroken.”
At this point, the old man stopped talking and looked at Lu Yuling’s expression calmly to see how he would react to the name “Zhao Hailan.”
However, Lu Yuling found the three words “Zhao Hailan” to be inaudible. He had never heard that name. What was important to her was who bullied the little girl. “What’s that girl’s name?”
Lu Yuling asked in a demanding tone.
Seeing his reaction, the old man understood that Lu Rongyue had never told her son about Zhao Hailan.
At the beginning, Lu Rongyue would rather be kicked out of the house than say who the child’s father was. It could be seen that she was really heartbroken and had not forgiven him yet.
“It’s useless. If I tell her name, are you going to fight her? She is still the apple of the eye of the old Zhao family.” Mr. Li said this while thinking about how old Zhao would react if he knew there was another grandson in this world.
Lu Yuling replied, unconvinced. “Then I can let her continue to be so domineering.”
Mr. Li waved his hands and said resolutely, “No, of course not. There will be a day when she suffers.”
Grandpa Li didn’t like that girl, Zhao Cichu, because she had evil intentions and would bully his granddaughter. And what happened at Mr. Zhao’s birthday party years ago cracked the friendship between old Mr. Zhao and Grandpa Li.
Mr. Zhao gave birth to five children, and only Zhao Hailan was a son. He and his wife have always favoured sons over daughters, so Zhao Hailan was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth.
Zhao Hailan’s only child was Zhao Cichu, so old Mr. Zhao and his wife treated their granddaughter as a treasure. Especially after Zhao Cichu’s mother died, they even intensified their pampering of this girl; if she wanted the moon, they would try their best to fulfil their granddaughter’s wish.
At that birthday party, anyone with a discerning eye would know at a glance that the youngest member of the Li family would definitely not say something as uneducated as “You have no mother.”
However, old Mr. Zhao and his wife were so protective of their granddaughter, and they would not listen to anyone’s words. They didn’t even give any face to the Li family considering their long friendship and insisted on seeking “justice” for his granddaughter, which resulted in Grandpa Li’s granddaughter being slapped.
Mr. Li had been suppressing his fury because of this incident, but he gave it some thought. Luckily, Zhao Hailan’s wife gave birth to a daughter. The two families would undoubtedly be married if the child was a male. Thinking about how the Zhao family was raising their granddaughter, it would not be different if the child were a boy. Luckily, his granddaughter could escape from a fire pit.
Mr. Li grinned and refocused on Lu Yuling after giving this some thought. “There’s another thing you don’t know,” he remarked. “Both Zhao Cichu’s father and our son grew up together.
We even agreed to have a baby kiss together, but then both of them gave birth to a daughter, so the baby kiss became nothing.”
[Tl: “baby kiss”: a marriage agreement between two families set up when the children related to the marriage agreement are very young or in the womb.]
Lu Yuling thought to himself. “Luckily, that person is a girl.’
But he replied, pretending to be surprised, “And this… what’s going on?”
Mr. Li replied, “Isn’t it? If Zhao Cichu’s father now has an obedient and sensible son, I can consider giving him our Xining.”
Lu Yuling was a little unhappy after hearing this. “Even if he has an extra son, you have to ask Xining if she wants to, right?”
Mr. Li smiled again and replied thoughtfully. “Then I can’t still give my granddaughter away casually.”
Actually, Mr.Li couldn’t give away her granddaughter as he wished, but if that boy was raised by Lu Rongyue,
and if her son could marry his granddaughter, it would be great.
Mr. Li would be very tempted. His son couldn’t marry.
And if Lu Rongyue did not meet that scoundrel, Zhao Hailan, at his house, that girl would face such pain alone. Mr. Li thought sadly. He was the reason that put Rongyue in pain, so he wanted to help her so she wouldn’t suffer as much in the future.
“My wife and I love our little one the most. Whoever treats the little one well will be the one we give our granddaughter to.” As soon as Mr. Li finished speaking, the transparent curtain hanging at the door of the cafeteria was opened.
There stood Li Xining and the old lady, Mrs. Li.
Both of them had a menacing attitude, indicating they were not easy to mess with at first sight.
Lu Yuling quickly reminded the old man in a low voice. “Xining and her grandma are here.”
Mr. Li turned around and saw that they were indeed here.
Before he could open his mouth, Mrs. Li started to scold Mr. Li fiercely: “I just said you are an annoying person, but you are really an annoying person! How can you run around at such an old age? Do you think that because you were an old man, you would not get kidnapped or lost?”
The cafeteria was empty, and Mrs. Li’s already loud voice was amplified several times.
Lu Yuling was shocked by this overwhelming battle, let alone Mr. Li.
Mrs. Li didn’t intend to stop there.
“Okay, Xiaoyao and I are worried about you to death. Hey, it’s better for you. You can really enjoy eating and drinking here by yourself!”
Mr. Li quickly said, “Hey, don’t talk nonsense. I didn’t buy this. I didn’t eat alone.”
Mrs. Li: “Why did you come to the canteen if you didn’t want to eat alone?”
Mr. Li replied without blinking, “I didn’t come here.” And then he looked at Lu Yuling with a pealding look.
Lu Yuling: “…” ‘Grandpa, you can’t do this. Aren’t I afraid of them?’
Immediately afterwards, Lu Yuling met Li Xining’s eyes, and the blazing eyes were exactly the same as her grandma’s. “Why are you running around with my grandpa? Do you know how anxious Grandma and I are?”
Lu Yuling’s heart “thumped.” How could he say that he wanted to please her grandfather?
After struggling for a long time, he decided to find another way and pretend that nothing happened. “Are you eating chicken steak? It’s just fried.”
Mr. Li immediately followed Lu Yuling’s words and said, “That’s right, eat chicken steak. If you don’t eat it now, it will get cold.”
Old Mrs. Li stared at Mr. Li. “I won’t eat it!”
Mr. Li: “…” ‘Oh, what a bad temper.’
Li Xining glared at Lu Yuling. “I won’t eat it either!”
Lu Yuling: “Alas, , it’s too difficult for me.’
