Li Xining started drinking milk tea only after she came back. The mango bubble bombs were also black. They popped up one by one along the transparent straw along with the milk tea. After sucking them into her mouth, she took a bite and her mouth was filled with the sweet taste of mango sauce.

Very satisfied!

Seeing that her granddaughter was drinking so happily, Mrs. Li also took a sip of her own milk tea, but after sucking for a long time, she didn’t get a single black bead. She picked up the milk tea cup again and shook it, but she didn’t see any small black beads either. “Why are mine different from yours? Why does yours have little black beads, but mine doesn’t?”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Li also shook his cup, but he didn’t see any small black beads.

Immediately afterwards, the two elderly people turned their eyes to Lu Yuling at the same time.

After giving him a sidelong glance she spoke for him. “Those are pearls made of sticky rice. They are difficult to digest and, if you’re not careful, they can easily lodge in your throat. These are particularly for young people.”

The two seniors took their granddaughter’s words seriously, and they did not question her anymore. Instead, they assumed the kids were acting in their best interests.

Mr Li lifted his left hand to check his watch. “It’s 5:20. The parent-teacher meeting should be over soon. Let’s go back soon.”

Mrs. Li stood up and urged. “Yes, we have to go back quickly.”

The old couple were worried that they would not be able to see Rongyue if they returned late.

There was still a piece of cumin-flavoured chicken steak left. Li Xining quickly tied the piece of chicken steak with a bamboo skewer and brought it to her mouth. Lu Yuling waited for her to finish eating and collected the garbage on the table. When he walked out of the canteen, he threw away the garbage. 

The old couple was anxious and actually walked in front of the two children.

Seeing that there was no one around, Lu Yuling became bolder. After throwing away the garbage, he said to Li Xining. “I have to wait for you to eat and drink. After you finish eating and drinking, I have to be responsible for cleaning up after you. You are so diligent and hard-working, yet you still need to be called a little princess, alas, it is unreasonable, how can there be a princess who would bully an innocent one like me.”

‘This man is really hypocritical!’ Li Xining was angry and wanted to laugh at the same time. “You just work, why do you talk so much?”

Lu Yuling: “Look at you like this, you look like a landowner.”

Li Xining: “…” She still wanted to twist him, and she couldn’t bear it, so she really raised her hand and pinched Lu Yuling’s arm hard while her grandparents were not paying attention.

“Hiss…” Lu Yuling gasped in pain from the sudden attack, covering his arms and looking at Li Xining, “Are you still addicted to screwing?”

Li Xining said confidently: “What’s wrong with you? Shouldn’t the landowner deal with the disobedient maid?”

Lu Yuling smiled and replied, “Okay, just wait. I will seduce the landlord tonight and let you be my maid tomorrow.”

Lu Yuling sensed he was going to be beaten again as Li Xining’s expression deteriorated. So he took off running, as if his feet were greased. He ran to Mr. and Mrs. Li after making a few haphazard moves with his long legs, then turned to face her.

Li Xining had an expression that she would beat him. Her brows slightly arched and her lips lifted.Li Xining gave him a furious look and pursed her lips.

Lu Yuling first intended to return to comfort the small tigress because he sensed that she was a little distressed, but Mr. Li interrupted him with, “Yuling, is your mother here to hold a parent-teacher meeting for you today?”

Hearing Mr.Li’s words, Lu Yuling was stunned for a moment, and his heart suddenly hurt, as if he had been pricked by thousands of needles.

No one had asked about his mother in years.

After a person dies, it was like a handful of loess returning to the earth. When the wind blew, they disappeared without a trace, and not even a shadow could be seen. Who would care about their afterlife?

Mr. Li just wanted to make a final decision. ‘Can I see Rongyue today?’ He hadn’t seen Rongyue for too many years. When he first heard that Rongyue was kicked out of the house, he wanted to help her, but Rongyue suddenly disappeared. No matter how he looked for her, he couldn’t find her. He couldn’t help even if he wanted to. As time went by, he never heard any news about Rongyue again. Now that he finally found Rongyue again, the old man was excited and happy, and even felt a little homesick.

But Lu Yuling didn’t know how to answer this question. Taking a deep breath, he pretended to be calm and replied. “My mother is not here, my uncle is.”

Mr. Li frowned, not satisfied with the answer, and asked anxiously, “Why didn’t your mother come? Is she busy?”

Lu Yuling seemed to be drowning suddenly. He couldn’t breathe smoothly and couldn’t answer happily. “My mother, she…”

Mr. Li suddenly had a bad premonition: “What happened to her?”

Mrs. Li was also a little anxious, but her tone was relatively gentle. “Is she too busy at work?”

Li Xining had been following them not far behind. She felt that the atmosphere was not right, so she immediately quickened her pace and walked over. She just heard her grandfather asking, “What does your mother do now? Is she not here because she is busy?” 

Li Xining could vaguely guess why Lu Yuling never mentioned her parents, so when she heard her grandfather’s words, her heart immediately rose in her chest, and she said anxiously and uneasily. “Grandpa, why are you asking this? Oh, stop asking!”

“I just want to know why his mom didn’t come. Is she busy?” If Lu Yuling says ‘yes’, it would make the old man feel better. 

But Lu Yuling did not. He didn’t understand why Mr. Li and Mrs. Li wanted to ask about his mother. After pausing for a moment, he answered quietly and briefly. “My mother is gone.”

These four little words hurt everyone like a sharp knife.

Li Xining stopped breathing for a short time. She knew she was right, but she didn’t feel happy about solving the mystery. Instead, she felt very uneasy, and it was even more uncomfortable.

‘He had never talked about his mom and dad. It seems he didn’t talk about his mother because she was gone. But what about his father? Why isn’t he talking about his father either. And why does his uncle always come to the parent-teacher meetings instead of his father?’ Li Xining was too scared to think about things. She just felt very upset.

Mr. Li’s eyes became dark and he stumbled a bit. If Mrs. Li didn’t help him quickly, he could have fallen down. He didn’t believe what Lu Yuling said about Rongyue being gone. He asked him with red eyes, “Is your mother Lu Rongyue?”

Lu Yuling breathed out heavily and said, “Yes. “

Li Xining was worried and asked her grandpa to stop asking her questions.

The old man kept trying and wouldn’t give up.

But then, someone suddenly called Lu Yuling: “Lingzi, what are you doing? Let’s go home.”

The four people looked and saw a man in a suit and nice shoes coming towards them. He was in the middle of his life.

‘Oh, he is Lu Yuling’s uncle.’ Li Xining thought.

After the meeting with the parents and teachers was over, Lu Rongxing quickly left out the back door and ran ahead of all the other parents at a very fast speed. He knew that if he was even a little bit late, the teacher would keep him after class and give him a lecture.

“Rongxing?” Mr. Li started breathing very fast. 

Mrs. Li also had red circles in her eyes.She couldn’t believe it and yelled, “Is that really Rongxing?”

Lu Rongxing made a weird face when he heard the two old people say his name. He thought for a bit before he remembered who these two people were. He suddenly recognized them and shouted happily. “Uncle Li and Aunt Li, what are you doing here?”

Mr.Li took Lu Rongxing’s arm and asked with worry, “Where is your sister? Where is she?”

Lu Rongxing was surprised, and his smile quickly disappeared. After some time, he took a deep breath and said in a sad voice. “No, she has gone away for many years.”

It felt like a strong wind blew away all the happiness and excitement after being apart for a long time, leaving only shock and tiredness. 

Mr. Li and Mrs. Li both froze in place.

Li Xining looked at Lu Yuling and suddenly felt a little pain at the tip of her nose.

This was already considered showing scars in public.

Even though our loved one passed away a few years ago and we were starting to feel better, how many people could openly talk and laugh about it.

If a group of people asked her about how her dad was doing, she would feel very uncomfortable.

She pitied him.

She lifted her left hand, gently held his right hand, and comforted him by saying softly: “It’s ok.”

All of a sudden, he remembered the time in the winter years back when a girl gave him a candy and said it would make his mouth not taste bitter.

Actually, for him, she is the sweet treat that would make all his troubles go away.

He gently held her hand.
