After the meeting, Yu Wenyin packed her things and got ready to go home. But as she was leaving the classroom, the head teacher, Teacher Zhou, told her to wait.

“Mrs. Li, I need to discuss something with you.”

Yu Wenyin stopped and thought to herself. ‘This doesn’t happen often.’

Li Xining had been a good girl since she started going to kindergarten. The teachers only complimented her in front of everyone and never talked to her alone. Today was the first time that she had ever experienced this kind of thing.

Yu Wenyin had to wait another twenty minutes until teacher Zhou finished talking with other parents.

“Sorry for making you wait,” Teacher Zhou said directly. “I want to talk about your child’s situation at school.”

Yu Wenyin answered, “Is it because of grades? Or is it for another reason?”

“Xining always gets consistent grades and doesn’t have a favourite subject. Parents don’t need to be concerned about this. She has always been very good at studying, teacher Zhou said. “But because she is so good and charming, she always gets a lot of people who are interested in her.”

Yu Wenyin smiled and said, “Oh, I get it; it’s a feeling thing.”

Teacher Zhou also smiled and said, “Yes, it’s about relationships. She has recently become closer to a boy named Lu Yuling in the class. This boy is not an ordinary fool and is particularly rebellious. Additionally, this boy’s family situation is also unique, and there is a large distance between Xining and him. I hope you talk more with your child when you get home. I will make sure to focus on her more in school. The child can only use her thoughts on studying if parents and teachers work together. If you’re thinking about things you shouldn’t be thinking about right now, wouldn’t that be a waste of time?”

“Teacher Zhou, you misunderstood. They are not in the situation you said. Xining has told me about her and Lu Yuling.”

Teacher Zhouyi was surprised and asked, “How did she tell you?”

Yu Wenyin: “One evening after classes, Xining was riding her bicycle across the street and almost got hit by a van. Lu Yuling was in the right place at the right time and helped Xining, so Xining felt thankful and became friends with Lu Yuling. Afterwards, she helped him study because she wanted to repay him for his help.”

Actually, Yu Wenyin knew that her daughter liked this boy, but she couldn’t tell the head teacher. She had a different way of dealing with boys’ and girls’ feelings compared to how teachers handle students’ emotions. But on the other hand, she couldn’t argue with the child’s teacher. This would make the child feel ashamed, so she would only do what the teacher said.

After hearing this, teacher Zhou was surprised and understood. He said, “Oh, so that’s what it is.”

Yu Wenyin: “Yes, that’s right, just a regular relationship between classmates.”

Lao Zhou agreed, but also said, “If that’s true, it’s okay. There have been many scandals about those two in our class lately. However, boys and girls still need to avoid some taboos and control the scale of getting along.”

The word “scandal” made Yu Wenyin laugh. She said, “It seems that the young man is really famous, and even a person like Xining has been involved in the scandal.”

Teacher Zhou also laughed and said, “Isn’t it? He is a good-looking young man, and many girls like him.” After saying everything that needed to be said, the head teacher wanted to stop their conversation from here.  “Let’s end our discussion for today. Besides her relationships, Xining is doing well in school.”

Yu Wenyin thanked Teacher Zhou. “After I go back, I will pay closer attention to how the child is doing. I won’t let her cause trouble and leave behind her studies.”

After Yu Wenyin left the classroom, she couldn’t find her daughter, so she used her phone to call her.

The three grown-ups didn’t see the two people standing next to them and holding hands.
