Chapter 3
Li Xining later found out that those gangsters were a well-known hooligan group that liked to tease female students.
After that incident, those gangsters never appeared near No. 1 Middle School again.
Back then, in order to get rid of those gangsters, Lu Yuling led people to fight them and finally defeated them.
After being punished by Lu Yuling, the leader of that gangster group called him flatteringly “Brother” but Lu Yuling ignored the man’s low-key flattery and instead warned darkly. “In the future, if I find that you block students, especially female students, I will kill you directly.”
Since then, Li Xining had never been blocked by hooligans on the way home, but she didn’t know the inside story: only the gangsters disappeared, and other students didn’t know how that happened.
After Lu Yuling protected Li Xingxing from those gangsters, her impression of Lu Yuling slightly improved. But he still didn’t complete his homework and still fought with others.
Compared with the rebellious boy now, she admired the taciturn and delicate boy back then.
Because they were not connected in the same way, there was still not much interaction between the two of them. They had been in the same class for three years, and the conversations between the two of them were nothing more than the following three paragraphs:
Class leader Li: “Lu Yuling, have you finished your homework?”
Princess Lu: “No.”
Class leader Li: “Lu Yuling, there will be an appearance checkup tomorrow; can’t you cut your hair?”
Princess Lu: “No.”
Class leader Li: “Why?”
Princess Lu: “I will die if I cut my hair.”
Class leader Li: “Lu Yuling will be on duty tomorrow.”
Princess Lu: “Which window?”
Class leader Li: “How do you know it’s window cleaning?”
Princess Lu: “Except that, you haven’t arranged any other tasks before.”
Class Leader Li: “It’s because you are tall.”
Although Lu Yuling didn’t study or do other misbehaving things, he did his cleaning duty satisfactorily.
Collecting Lu Yuling’s homework was indeed a waste of time. Chen Lin’s words were correct, and Lu Yuling was a person who refused to change at all. But Li Xining didn’t want to treat Lu Yuling like this. Perhaps because she still remembered how Lu Yuling wept up in the stairwell a long time ago and she still had hope for him.
There were fifty-four people in the class, eight in each row, for a total of seven rows.
Before collecting the homework, Li Xining and Chen Lin divided the tasks. Chen Lin originally wanted to accept the homework in the last four rows and asked Li Xining to accept the first three rows, but Li Xining did not agree because she knew that Chen Lin would not collect the homework in the last row but would directly record the names of that row on the unsubmitted homework list.
Chen Lin was good at everything, but he looked down on others, specifically the weak students in the class.
Lu Yuling sat in the rightmost position in the last row, next to the back door of the classroom. In order to give Princess Lu a buffer, Li Xining went to the fourth row first, and before she started collecting homework, she deliberately glanced at the last row.
It may be that Mr. Li’s anger in physics class today was so powerful that even the rebels in the last row were scared of their physics teacher. All of them were hurriedly completing their homework except Lu Yuling.
He was just playing with his mobile phone calmly.
Li Xining got angry when she saw him like this. ‘The mud can’t support the wall!’
Sitting at the same table as his brother Lu, Ma Peng first saw the gaze of the goddess Xining and quickly poked his brother Lu’s arm. “Brother, brother, stop playing. The goddess Xining is staring at you.”
“So what? Can she still eat me?”
Fatty Ma was anxious. “The goddess of Xining will be here soon!”
Lu Yuling finally raised his head and glanced at Li Xining. “Let her come. Why are you afraid of her?”
Fatty Ma: “I’m not afraid, but you haven’t done your physics homework yet.”
“So what? Anyway, she won’t accept my homework. At most, she will ask, “Lu Yuling, where is your homework?” and then leave.” Lu Yuling looked at Ma Peng with raised eyebrows and said confidently, “Don’t forget the bet we made. Tomorrow morning, I will eat egg-filled biscuits with sausage and tenderloin.”
Fatty Ma: ‘Brother, why are you still thinking about eating at this time?’
Li Xining arrived at Ma Peng’s desk less than three minutes later, carrying a stack of completed assignments. Ma Peng instantly delivered his physics homework with both hands: a respectful posture, a tone that was quite religious. “Goddess, take my schoolwork.”
“You did a nice job today.” Li Xining praised him.
After receiving his goddess’ compliments, Ma Peng grinned from ear to ear and said modestly, “Well, it’s so-so.”
After Li Xining finished collecting fatty Ma’s homework, she repressed a smile and asked Lu Yuling, who was playing with his phone without looking up, “Where is your homework?”
Lu Yuling still gave the same answer. “I didn’t do it.”
The expected answer was also the answer she had heard countless times—he always said no, no, no.
Sighing in disappointment, she wanted to turn around and leave, but the moment she turned her head, she suddenly met Chen Lin’s mocking gaze.
He was leaning against a certain desk in the front row with his arms folded and was looking up here with raised brows; his eyes were slightly smug as if he were saying to Li Xining, “Look, I told you.”
At that moment, Li Xining’s heart suddenly burst into anger—not angry with Chen Lin but angry with Lu Yuling—‘Why did you degenerate like this? Why can’t you work hard to make others look up to you?’
Taking a deep breath, Li Xining stopped, turned around, and looked at Lu Yuling with a little anger. “What do you mean? Did you not have a paper, or did you not write it?”
Lu Yuling, who was watching a basketball game, was stunned by Li Xining’s words. Usually, she ignored him and didn’t care whether he did his homework or not. But today she was a bit strange.
Lu Yuling was surprised and couldn’t speak. Li Xining repeated again, “Did you have no papers, or didn’t you write them?”
This time, Lu Yuling managed to regain consciousness and replied bravely, “I didn’t write it. Anyway, I didn’t know what to write, and I didn’t copy from others. Am I not truthful?”
Apart from Ma Pang, who could obviously sense the goddess’ wrath, the other kids in the last row immediately began laughing and enjoying the performance.
Li Xining was indeed so angry that she couldn’t speak. ‘This b*stard who doesn’t know what to do can talk like this. If I waste time on him in the future, I will be a puppy!’
“Give me your paper, Teacher Li asked me to collect all the homework. So whether you have done it or not, I will collect it today,” Li Xining said.
Seeing Li Xining’s angry eyes, Lu Yuling realized she was really angry this time, and her originally careless expression had gradually disappeared. Then he began to look for physics papers among the messy review materials on the desk.
However, as soon as he found the paper, and before he could say to her, “I’ll start writing now,” Chen Lin came, glanced at him with disdain and contempt, and then said to Li Xining, “Stop talking to him like that. What nonsense.”
Li Xining didn’t say anything; she just directly took the blank paper from Lu Yuling’s hand, turned, and left.
Chen Lin glanced at Lu Yuling again, sneered contemptuously, and walked behind Li Xining.
Lu Yuling stared at Li Xining’s back in a daze, completely at a loss. He had pissed her off.
“Brother, the goddess Xining seems to be angry with you.” Fatty Ma whispered.
Lu Yuling gave Ma Peng a murderous glance.
Only then did Fatty Ma realize that he had made a slip of the tongue, so he quickly changed the subject, but then unknowingly stabbed his Brother Lu in the heart again. “Oh, I said that the male-god Chen must like the goddess Xining. Seeing that the goddess Xining was angry, he came to coax her. Don’t you think, brother?”
This time, Lu Yuling exploded like a volcano. “It’s your ….”
Fatty Ma: ‘What did I say wrong?’
The bell rang, making the lively classroom silent.
Li Xining, whose seat was in the middle of the third row, sat there, and started to sort out the homework she had collected. After finishing that task, she took out the English paper and began to write her English homework.
Lu Yuling stared at Li Xining’s back in panic, and he was thinking about how to apologise to her after school.
As soon as the bell rang, Li Xining carried her schoolbag and left before Lu Yuling had time to talk to her. She gave Chen Lin the homework she had collected and asked him to hand it over to their physics teacher.
Lu Yuling hurried to chase her and finally caught up with her on the stairs.
But Li Xining acted as if she hadn’t seen him, and went downstairs hurriedly. Lu Yuling relied on his long legs and finally successfully blocked Li Xining on the stairs, but after blocking her, he didn’t know what to say anymore as his mind went blank, and the lines he had rehearsed countless times just now were completely forgotten in an instant.
Li Xining left in such a hurry not only because she was angry with Lu Yuling, but also because her mother was coming back from a business trip today. The mother and daughter hadn’t seen each other for two months, and she was anxious to go home to see her mother, so when Lu Yuling blocked her way, Li Xining became even more angry. “Get out of the way!” She shouted.
Lu Yuling didn’t move and said in a panic, “Don’t be angry, okay?”
Li Xining: “Get out of the way!”
Lu Yuling sighed and gave up.
As Li Xining continued to go downstairs, Lu Yuling obediently followed behind with a sullen face.
Li Xining pushed her bicycle from the parking lot to the school gate, got on it, and rode onto the road like the wind.
It was 9.30 at night, and all the hustle and bustle of the day had faded away.
The road was divided into three parts: the motor vehicle lane was in the middle, and two bicycle lanes were on both sides of the motor vehicle lane.
Li Xining crossed the road and rode in the bicycle lane, heading east.
Lu Yuling followed her closely on a mountain bike.
Usually, he would deliberately keep a distance from her, but today he made her angry, and he didn’t know how to calm her down, so he rode his bicycle closer to hers.
After passing a big intersection with a signal light, there was a small intersection not far away. As it was close to the big intersection, there was no signal light.
Just as Li Xining rode out of the small intersection, a silver van rushed out from the left side of the road.
The driver of that van had not expected that a student would be riding a bicycle at this time, so he panicked and slammed on the brakes, making a screeching sound.
Such a thing happened in the blink of an eye, and Li Xining couldn’t understand what had happened. All she could figure out was the approaching van and the sound of brakes. At the moment of life and death, a familiar figure suddenly rushed to her left, and the next moment he rushed directly towards her, pressed her to the ground, and then tightly protected her under his body.
Li Xining was able to hear the sound of the van’s wheels stomping on the bicycle as she fell to the ground.
Her body started to shake violently, her thoughts became blank, and the blood on her face quickly faded.
She struggled to regain consciousness for a while, while the van driver’s strange cries continued to wake her up.
She was shocked to discover that Lu Yuling was the person who had been protecting her.
Her breathing stopped abruptly when their eyes locked.
Even though the night sky was filled with stars, all she could see were Lu Yuling’s eyes. He was so close to her that she could feel his body temperature and hear his heartbeat, and his eyes were so bright.
Li Xining’s heart was pounding so hard at that time that she was unable to hear anything.
She would have been crushed by the wheels of the van if Lu Yuling hadn’t rushed to save her.
“Hey, why don’t you stand up? Are you in pain? Is everything good with you?” Li Xining asked as her heart suddenly leaped to her neck.
Although Lu Yuling was unharmed, he was also very frightened that he couldn’t move his body.
He mumbled back, “No, no, no.”
When he continued to look at her, Li Xining flushed, ceased speaking, and silently turned away.
Lu Yuling continued to stare at her.
The driver of the van, who had been trembling with fear for a long time, couldn’t stand it anymore and shouted at Lu Yuling anxiously and angrily, “Young man, if you have something to do, let’s go to the hospital. Don’t waste time, get up from the little girl.”
Li Xining: “…”
Lu Yuling: “…”
