You hidden in my heart - Chapter 30.2

Chapter 30.2
There were two bedrooms and one living room in the house, and although it was small and the furniture was almost ten years old, the house looked very tidy.
The living room had a balcony on its west side. The old-style windows that go from the floor to the ceiling were clean and let in lots of light. Some men’s clothes were hanging from the bars on the balcony ceiling, making the place feel cosy and warm.
Seeing that, Li Xining had a positive feeling about Lu Yuling. ‘This means that Lu Yuling has good daily habits. Acting wild and rebellious is just for show. In his heart, he is still a good and polite young man.’
Li Xining didn’t go into the bedroom because she wanted to be polite and show respect.
She glanced around the living room for a bit and then walked to the kitchen, leaning on the door and looking inside quietly.
Lu Yuling cleaned the meat and vegetables and put them on different-sized plates and bowls. He was cutting the meat right now.
They bought long pieces of pork belly at the supermarket just now. At that time, Li Xining was thinking about what to do with such a big piece of meat. But after watching Lu Yuling’s amazing knife skills, she realised that she had been thinking too much.
He held the knife very steady and used the right amount of force and angle. He cut a long piece of meat into small pieces of almost the same size with just a few cuts.
Li Xining was surprised. She never expected the arrogant princess to have so many hidden skills.
Lu Yuling saw Li Xining, was surprised, and looked at her. He raised his eyebrows and quietly asked, “Are you amazed? Doesn’t your brother look very handsome?”
Li Xining was well-behaved because she wanted him to cook for her; therefore, she said yes by moving her head up and down.
Lu Yuling smiled and felt happy. He boasted that he was the best man in the world, and she wouldn’t find another one even if she looked hard.
Li Xining said firmly, “Who says so? My dad can cook too, and he cooks very well.”’
‘I also think Uncle Li’s cooking was really good.’ Lu Yuling loved to eat Uncle Li’s braised pork the most. When he was a kid, whenever Uncle Li visited, he would keep asking him to make braised pork. Every time Uncle Li cooked pork, he would lay by the kitchen door like a hungry cat, staring eagerly, just like Li Xining now.
‘Finally, after so many years passed, Uncle Li’s daughter ended up in my hands.’ Lu Yuling felt like laughing, but he didn’t want to tell Li Xining about it just yet. He said, “When I heard about it, I knew that Uncle Li is a kind and good man. He is a very good man, for sure.”
When praising words about her father coming from another person’s mouth, she was quiet for a little bit. “I’ll tell my dad what you said next year during the Qingming Festival,” she said quietly.
[Tl:- Ethnic Chinese in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam celebrate the Qingming Festival, also called the Ching Ming Festival or Tomb-Sweeping Day in English.
On this day, people sweep and decorate graves, burn incense and paper money, and make food offerings as a way of remembering and honouring the deceased.]
Lu Yuling stopped his work for a few seconds. This was the first time she talked about her dad to him, but he felt very let down. He went back to normal and kept cutting vegetables without speaking.
Li Xining looked the same as always and spoke calmly: “My father died when I was ten. There was a car crash. That day was Valentine’s Day, but it was also winter break. My mom came to pick me up in the middle of the class. She looked like she was crazy, with red eyes, and she pulled me out of the classroom in a hurry. My mom was driving very fast to the hospital, and I was scared because I didn’t understand what was happening. After arriving at the hospital, I found out that my dad had passed away. That’s when I realised how quickly my mother had rushed to get there. I am very scared of my father’s death. I felt like everything was going wrong.
‘The sky is falling’—Lu Yuling understood this feeling very well. He said, “I never met my father, and I don’t know who he is. So, when my mother died, I felt the same way. The sky dropped down two times. The first time I found out she was sick, the second time was when she passed away.”
This was the first time he decided to talk about his mother. After his mother died, he never talked about her to anyone because it was too hard for him.
Today, he said these words without trying to hold back his feelings. He spoke naturally without thinking too much about it.
Facing Li Xining, he was completely defenceless and frank, like a transparent person.
The same went for Li Xining. Except for Xu Dongruo, she had never mentioned anything about her father to her friends and classmates before, but Lu Yuling was an exception. He opened the door to her heart.
Have a nice day!
