Chapter 31.3

Lu Yuling was surprised at how quickly Li Xining made a wish. ‘What wish she made in a hurry?’

Li Xining could see through Lu Yuling’s thoughts and said, “Just saying the wish won’t make it work, so please don’t ask it.”

Lu Yuling smiled and said, “Then don’t say it.” Then he got ready to cut the cake.

Li Xining: “Let’s eat some food first before we have cake. I don’t want cake right now.” She was afraid that if she ate the cake first, she wouldn’t have room for the noodles.

Lu Yuling glanced at Li Xining, then pushed the cake to the side, took her bowl of noodles, put a lot of meat in it, and gave it to her, telling her to eat it.

Li Xining said thank you before taking the bowl, and she saw that it was stuffed with a lot of food. 

Usually, girls felt shy when they ate in front of their crushes, and seeing the food in the bowl, Li Xining felt the same. This was the first time they were eating together, so she shyly said, “It’s too much; I can’t finish it.” 

Lu Yuling replied, “You eat as much as you can.”

Li Xining said, “Then the food will be wasted.” 

Lu Yuling replied as he was about to fight a battle, “I will eat the rest. Otherwise, it will be wasted.”

Li Xining was happy and began to enjoy her food. During lunch, everything was peaceful and nice. 

Then, suddenly, Lu Yuling asked in a mean way, “Who was on the phone? You took a long time.”

Li Xining gave him a mean look because she knew he was feeling jealous. But she revealed the truth to him. “Chen Lin and Xu Dongruo. It took a long time to make two phone calls.”

‘Chen Lin, why is he not gone yet?’ Lu Yuling got mad and didn’t hear the rest clearly; therefore, he didn’t get that Xu Dongruo had also called Li Xining. He asked, “Why did he call you?”

Li Xining sadly said, “There is a problem at school. The way our class exam room is set up is not good enough. We need to find someone to organise it, so our teacher told him to find students to fix those things.”

Lu Yuling was smart. He understood that Chen Lin did it on purpose, but he couldn’t say it clearly. “Why does he want to find you? Shouldn’t he ask some boys to do this kind of thing?” 

Li Xining was mad. “Then you go and ask him.”

Lu Yuling said with confidence, “If I don’t go, someone else will go for sure. But he should not try to find you, no matter what.”

“I am the class leader; who will he seek if he doesn’t come to me?” Li Xining couldn’t stop herself from speaking. She said quietly, “You are being very small-minded. Didn’t Chen Lin just apologise to you? Why are you still angry at him?”

‘Hmph, silly tigress, you can’t understand. I know he likes you.’ But Lu Yuling couldn’t tell Li Xining because Li Xining didn’t realise that Chen Lin had feelings for her, and he wasn’t foolish enough to say that. ‘When a mute eats Coptis chinensis, he feels unspeakably bitter and aggrieved.’

[Tl: Coptis chinensis is an herb that is used in Chinese medicine.]

Lu Yuling had no choice but to reply, “I just bear grudges; I’m just unhappy. I won’t bear anyone’s grudges in the world, but I will bear their grudges!”

Li Xining said, “You.”

Lu Yuling said, “Don’t accuse me. I am just angry and won’t be calmed down for a while.”

Li Xining said, “It’s difficult to persuade and warn her; I’m really scared of this little princess.” After saying that, Li Xining sighed, ignored him, and kept on eating.

At first, she was hesitant to give it up because she felt embarrassed, but the noodles with gravy were really tasty, especially the hand-rolled ones, which were chewy. The more she ate, the yummier they tasted, so she kept eating without realising it until everything was gone, and there was not even a small piece of coriander left.

When she put down her chopsticks, she exclaimed, “Wow, the food is really great.”

Lu Yuling found it funny and said, “You can eat a lot.”

Li Xining turned red and angrily kicked him, saying, “Do you disagree?”

Lu Yuling got scared for a second and said, “I don’t.”

Li Xining said, “No. Just stop talking!”

Lu Yuling: “…” ‘Do I still dare to speak? You will bully me all over the world!’

Lu Yuling began to clean up the dishes with a sigh. Li Xining felt ashamed to let someone else cook and clean, so she stood up and said, “You take a break; I’ll do the dishes.”

“You rest.” Lu Yuling moved quickly, picking up the stacked empty bowls in one hand and the braised pork plate in the other. “You can’t enter the kitchen without my permission.”

Li Xining suddenly felt like she was just standing there with nothing to do, like a shopkeeper with no customers. Apart from eating and drinking, she couldn’t do anything else. She had become a landlord who took advantage of the working people.

She had to do something for herself, so she went to the kitchen and said, “Where is the rag? I will clean the table.”
