Chapter 32.2

The car began to move slowly, and Li Xining kept looking at the mirror until she couldn’t see Lu Yuling anymore in the mirror.

Although Mr. Li was sitting in the backseat, he saw his granddaughter’s little movements. “XiaoYao, do you think Yuling is good?” 

Li Xining was startled by her grandfather’s words. ‘Why is he asking this?’ She pondered for a few seconds and thought about what to say because she was embarrassed to tell the truth. So, she said something different: “What’s good? He is just a hypocritical little boy. Princess!”

Mr. Li smiled. “Oh, but you still like him.”

The girl’s little thoughts were exposed. Li Xining’s cheeks instantly turned red, and she shouted angrily. “Grandpa!” Then she turned her head and complained to her grandma. “Grandma, you don’t care about my grandpa!”

Old Mrs. Li glared at Mr. Li and said angrily, “Him? Can I control him? He is just an annoying old man! I don’t care about him.”

“You don’t like him? But your grandma and I thought you liked that boy.” Mr. Li continued to tease his granddaughter.

“You annoying old man. What are you saying?” Mrs. Li scolded Mr. Li as she feared her granddaughter would be angry.

Listening to her grandparents’ words, Li Xining became more shy, and she muttered with a red face. “I don’t like him!”

Mr. Li: “But I think that boy likes you very much. We have noticed that. Can’t you see it?”

Li Xining suddenly felt a little happy in her heart. She wanted to laugh loudly and happily, but she was too embarrassed, so she suppressed the movements in the corner of her mouth and said it with a serious expression. “I can’t tell.”

Mr. Li said, “It seems that Yu Ling has to work harder; otherwise, he can’t catch you.”

Li Xining became even more shy. “Grandpa! “

Seeing that her granddaughter was getting angry, Mrs. Li quickly poked her husband with her elbow and kept winking at him. “Oh, you annoying guy, please stop saying a few words!” 

“Okay, okay, no more talking; as long as you two are good, it’s fine. It’s okay to quarrel, but don’t get into trouble. If you have any misunderstandings, you must make them clear directly; otherwise, it will hurt your feelings.” 

Li Xining once again noticed something strange about the old man. After thinking about it, she turned around and asked, “Grandpa, why do I think you were so kind to Lu Yuling today?”

Mr. Li thought of the attitude of the Lu family towards Yu Ling again, sighed, and replied, “He is a good boy, but his life is not very good.” 

Old Mrs. Li didn’t say anything more, but she also sighed.

Li Xining didn’t think much about it; she just thought that the old couple sympathised with Lu Yuling’s life experience, so she didn’t ask any more questions. However, Lu Yling’s words were echoing in her mind: I have never met my father, and I don’t know who he is.

The more she thought about it, she felt more and more distressed.

His mother was gone, and his father was unknown. What was the difference between this and an orphan?

She suddenly understood why the exquisite boy with both good morals and academics had become more and more rebellious—because his mother was gone, no one in this world could restrain him anymore, and no one had any hope for his future, so he became more and more depraved.

Because he couldn’t see the light, he kept moving towards darkness.

But now he seemed to be changing and no longer lived aimlessly as before.

She hoped that he would get better and better, so she would not give up on him no matter what.
