Chapter 34.1

The examination rooms in No. 1 Middle School were arranged according to their grades. Students with good grades were at the front of the exam room, and students with poor grades were at the back.

In the past three years of her high school career, Li Xining has sat for exams in the same classroom. On the other hand, Lu Yuling had to take the exam in the last classroom. 

There were only twenty-two classrooms in the teaching area, so the last group of students was supposed to take the exam in another building. As the cheat sheets were popular among the last group, school authorities had to arrange the last examination room in the laboratory building.

The lab building was located in the southwest part of the school, far away. Most of the students who took the exam in the teaching area had already gone back to their classrooms and were talking about the just-finished math exam.

When Lu Yuling came to the classroom after finishing his test, he saw Li Xining and Chen Lin talking in the corridor in front of the classroom.

‘Huh, it’s Chen Lin again!’

Lu Yuling felt annoyed at seeing Chen Lin. ‘Chen Lin… He is like a smiling tiger—gentle and cold in appearance—but in fact, he has more eyes than anyone else. This kind of person can win others’s trust easily, but then he uses this trust and favours deceiving others to achieve his own ultimate goal. Deep scheming. Li Xining is deceived by his innocent and harmless appearance.

But Lu Yuling didn’t think Li Xining was stupid or silly because most people in the class thought Chen Lin was a good person, including the class teacher. 

The image of Chen Lin in others was much higher than that of Lu Yuling, the school’s notorious student. 

Lu Yuling was not surprised by Li Xining’s attitude towards Chen Lin, so a good student like Li Xining would easily step into the trap set by Chen Lin.

If she could see through Chen Lin, there would be no need for him to bother.

Li Xining was standing facing the east stairwell, and she saw him as soon as Lu Yuling appeared, but there were many students in the corridor just after the exam. To avoid suspicion and not attract attention, she could only pretend that she didn’t see him.

Lu Yuling understood her intention, so he didn’t take the initiative to say hello to her. He just whispered as he passed by her, “Don’t forget what I told you this morning.”

He wanted to remind her not to believe everything Chen Lin would say and to think carefully before making a decision.

Li Xining also knew what Lu Yuling meant, but she still felt that Lu Yuling was biased against Chen Lin. 

Chen Lin’s reputation in the class was not excellent, but it was considered good. He usually looked down on slow learners in the class, but if they had difficulties, he would help them. No matter who came to him to ask questions, he would patiently answer them; even if the person was very weak in his studies, he never refused.

And every time outstanding class cadres were selected, he had the highest vote rate. There were more than 50 students in the class, and he would get nearly 40 votes. In terms of class work, Chen Lin was very popular.

Therefore, no matter how she looked at Chen Lin, he didn’t appear to be that kind of menacing and cunning person. As a result, Li Xining couldn’t determine whether what Lu Yuling said to her this morning was because he truly discovered Chen Lin’s secret side or if it was because he really disliked Chen Lin and didn’t want her to get in touch with him. 

Chen Lin was standing across from Li Xining, so he could obviously hear what Lu Yuling had just said to Li Xining. Yet he did not display any unusual emotions and asked in a casual tone, “What did he say in the morning?”

Li Xining definitely couldn’t tell the truth, so she replied perfunctorily, “It’s nothing, just to remind me to keep a distance from him in school and not to think too much about it.”

“You two should keep a distance in school now. He is doing it for your own good. You really don’t have to think too much,” Chen Lin said.

She had never seen Lu Yuling be the target of any animosity from Chen Lin. So, Li Xining became more confused as a result of Lu Yuling’s constant attacks on Chen Lin, even though Chen Lin was helping him talk. 

In all honesty, she wasn’t sure if she should believe Lu Yuling. ‘Let’s keep that aside for the time being.’ She didn’t ask Chen Lin to come and talk in the corridor just now to study Chen Lin’s character but to inquire about the attitude and tone of the head teacher, Lao Zhou.

Lao Zhou had scheduled the exam for the afternoon, but he hadn’t come back yet. As soon as he came back, she would go to the office to find him.
