Chapter 36.2
Li Xining ran to the door of the “Deep in the Green Shade” bar in one breath. The tables outside the bar were crowded. Li Xining scanned the area but couldn’t find Lu Yuling’s figure among them.
As she was about to enter the bar, she felt someone’s gaze from the open area of the opposite bar. When she turned her head to look at who that was, she saw Xue Kun. ‘Xue Kun must have skipped classes. It looks like he is probably a frequent visitor to this street.’
Li Xining was unsurprised to see Xue Kun in this place, though, as the majority of the grade knew that Xue Kun liked copying Lu Yuling. To put it another way, he enjoyed competing with Lu Yuling constantly, even though he lacked the latter’s high appearance, fearless domineering spirit, and good figure. He simply felt good about himself and thought he was superior to Lu Yuling in every manner, even though anyone with a keen eye could see that he was inferior to Lu Yuling in every way.
Because Xue Kun felt so confident in himself that even eight horses couldn’t bring him down, the majority of the grade thought he was a king of force.
Lu Yuling was the most well-known resident singer on this street, so Xue Kun must have followed closely since Lu Yuling liked to come here.
However, it was clear that Xue Kun must have suffered a great deal because he was unable to sing or play the guitar, and his appearance was mediocre at best and downright horrible. Xue Kun was just saddened to learn that one was in heaven and the other was in hell.
Li Xining, in fact, was impressed by Xue Kun’s unwavering spirit. She would never cross the green road if it were her, only to avoid getting crushed.
She noticed that Xue Kun was seated next to a young man who appeared to be in his 20s.
He didn’t seem like a school student. He was dressed in torn pants and a tight black short-sleeve shirt. His dark eyes and yellow perm gave him the appearance of an illiterate young man.
Xue Kun and the man seated beside him were smoking when Li Xining caught sight of them.
The customers in the booth next to them didn’t seem to care that the two of them were smoking a lot.
The young man met Li Xining’s gaze, then took a wine glass from the glass table with one hand while holding a cigarette in the other. Then he lifted the glass in Li Xining’s direction. Although he was smiling, his expression was a bit contemptuous and teasing.
Li Xining frowned. She didn’t like his look very much, and she felt that he was disrespectful. Therefore, she didn’t look at them any more and walked towards the gate deep in the green shade.
Seeing that she entered the bar, Xue Kun cursed with a sneer. “Fake and noble b*tch.”
He arrived today accompanied by Cheng Ling, who was a gangster outside the school. Since he knew the grudge between Lu Yuling and Cheng Ling, he approached the latter and became his good friend.
“Brother Cheng, do you know who that girl was? She is Lu Yuling’s girlfriend,” Xue Kun said with a sarcastic tone.
Although Lu Yuling was Cheng Ling’s enemy, Cheng Ling didn’t dare cross paths with Lu Yuling after he learned a bitter lesson two years ago.
“She is Li Xining?” When Xue Kun revealed that this girl was Lu Yuling’s girlfriend, Cheng Ling showed an instant interest in her. Squinting his eyes, he put down the wine glass and cigarette he was holding and turned to face Xue Kun. “She is really beautiful. Lu Yuling has good taste.”
Xue Kun commented, “Just lovely? Her life is not terrible. She is merely a filthy b*tch who poses as noble and has tried a tonne of condoms.”
Cheng Ling did not doubt Xue Kun’s words. He really thought that Li Xining was such a person—she was obviously very coquettish, but she had to pretend to be pure. ‘How could a serious white, rich, and beautiful woman like a gangster-like Lu Yuling? Unless she was blind. So definitely, she is a wh*re.’
****
The atmosphere of the bar at night was more hazy and luxurious than it was during the day.
Tonight was not a performance night at the Green Shade Bar. The only instrument on stage was a black piano. In front of the piano, a woman in a long skirt was playing the well-known composition “To Alice” on the piano. The quiet music added a dreamy, romantic touch to the already beautiful ambience. The music was tasteful rather than loud, and the lights were a deep blue colour.
And the bar was filled.
Li Xining observed Lu Yuling seated and drinking with the bar owner Chen as soon as she entered.
She let out a sigh of relief when she realised that Lu Yulig was there, and she moved straight over to the booth. She grabbed the wine glass out of his hand as soon as she arrived at him and shouted, “Don’t drink, come back to school with me.”
Lu Yuling obviously didn’t expect Li Xining to come. At first, he was surprised, but soon he became normal. His heart gradually turned cold. ‘She doesn’t like me, so why is she here? The reason she treated me well was all out of gratitude, not affection.’
She admitted this herself, and she said this to everyone around her—to her mother, to Xu Dongruo, and even to Chen Lin.
Everyone knew that she couldn’t possibly like him; only he didn’t know. But now he knew.
He didn’t coerce her into liking him, but he also wasn’t a heartless fool or so insatiably hungry that he had to use “gratitude” as a crutch to make up for “like.”
He didn’t need her, not at all.
“Does it have anything to do with you?” Lu Yuling looked at Li Xining indifferently and asked with a cold voice, “Who are you to me? Why do you care so much?”
Li Xining’s eyes suddenly turned red. Lu Yuling had never treated her with such aloofness. She found it annoying that he was treating her in this way, and her fear of his attitude was much worse. She was aware of his anger, though. With a hint of begging, her tone softened to, “Will you come back to school with me?”
Lu Yuling was unmoved by her words and got up and left.
Li Xining quickly grabbed his sleeve and said carefully, “Lu Yuling…”
“Can you please stop bothering me?” Lu Yuling shouted before she could finish speaking and shook his hand. His look conveyed a sense of annoyance and nervousness, as though he were confined to a small area in complete darkness and absence of light.
Everything was a fabrication. He believed he had been duped and betrayed. He erupted in a fit of anguish and rage, red-eyed, glaring at Li Xining, “Do you think I saved you because I loved you? I would save a dog, so what about you?”
Li Xining was frightened and froze in place, staring at Lu Yuling like a wooden chicken, with tears rolling in her eyes.
The bar was quiet in an instant, and everyone’s eyes were focused on the two of them.
Have a nice day!
