Chapter 37.2
The police officers who came knew Li Xiyan. Not only them, but the officers in the sub-bureau next to Luyin Road knew Li Xiyan because he was the largest investor and the boss behind this street.
This was the first investment he started after returning from abroad. Although he had a rich family background, he did all the things with his own strength. He was a smart man with outstanding abilities, but it would be impossible for him to operate a business in Xifu City if he didn’t have any connections. Therefore, he became a well-known man in the society after a few years.
The fight had left Li Xiyan’s face bruised. His suit was no longer neat; some places were ripped, and his pair of glasses that had cracked was hanging on the bridge of his nose. But it didn’t affect Li Xiyan’s calm demeanour and powerful aura.
As soon as the police came, he stepped forward and talked with them as he was dealing with a client. “It was just a minor conflict due to some misunderstandings. We three already negotiated peace privately.”
He didn’t want to say it was a gang fight; otherwise, they would have to go through some serious things.
“Which three people?” one of the policemen asked.
“Me, him, and him,” Li Xiyan said while pointing at Lu Yuling and Cheng Ling, who had blood all over his face.
“Do you know each other, and why did you start fighting?”
“He is my sister’s boyfriend,” Li Xiyan said while pointing at Lu Yuling. Then he pointed at Cheng Ling and continued. “He was drunk and tried to bully my sister. So her boyfriend beat him up, and I helped my brother-in-law.”
Hearing the word “brother-in-law,” not only Li Xining blushed but also Lu Yuling.
At last, Li Xiyan added, “Ask him if you don’t believe me,” pointing at Cheng Ling. We’ve already made up.”
Cheng Ling did not dare to speak the truth, even though he lost his face. If he could avoid going to the police station, it would be much better. Since he was the one who started the fight in the first place, he controlled his rage forcefully and told the police, “Yes, we have already reconciled.”
The police stopped pursuing the matter further since the parties had already made up. And that was really a non-issue. Finally, they just gave the three parties some advice and departed.
Cheng Ling also wanted to seize the chance to depart with his brothers as soon as the police left, but he didn’t leave so easily. “I just gave you some face in front of the police, and don’t you think that you should give me some face as well? Otherwise, there is no point in fighting to death, right?”
A little out of control, Li Xichen grumbled, “Fuck you, are you so awesome? You talk to me like that without even trying to figure out who I am?”
“Xichen!” After stopping his brother, Li Xiyan approached Cheng Ling, gave him a cold glance, and then softly said, “We didn’t know each other before, but after this fight, we know each other. I give you a face, and you give it to me. I won’t bother you about what you said and did just now, but keep in mind that you won’t be able to stay in Xifu if you dare to disturb my sister and my brother-in-law once more.”
Hearing those words, Cheng Ling’s face turned pale and blue. At first, he didn’t take that man seriously. The man’s tone was not harsh, and he looked gentle, but Cheng Ling realised the man’s words were full of hidden thrones. It was obvious that the man was a real social person with money and power, and he could easily crush him.
Cheng Ling, clenching his teeth in resentment, reluctantly answered, “We will keep our distance from one another in the future as long as your brother-in-law doesn’t provoke me.”
After remaining silent for a while, Li Xiyan turned to face Xue Kun, who was standing next to Cheng Ling, and said, “I kindly advise you to change your younger brother. This person is unreliable; attacking from behind is a mean act.”
Cheng Ling also intended to deal with Xue Kun after returning, even though Li Xiyan didn’t say as much. With an icy gaze in Xue Kun’s direction, he and the others departed.
Li Xiyan, the boss of this street, had to go handle the losses and compensation concerns of the surrounding bars.
Li Xichen reminded his brother politely, “Brother, go change your clothes; it’s not decent.”
“How dare you say that if you had come five minutes earlier, I wouldn’t have gotten beaten!” Li Xiyan exclaimed in rage.
Li Xichen defended himself. “Do you still have the ability to hold me accountable? You said someone informed me that Xiaoyao was here, but you did not specify Xiaoyao’s location. How can I find you? Since you didn’t pick up the phone, my only option was to search every place for you! Who knew that at this age, you would start fighting with people? Should I not run to find help once more?” He indeed ran up and down the street to find some capable men, and he felt his lungs about to explode.
With a sigh, Li Xiyan explained calmly, “If it wasn’t for Xiaoyao’s boyfriend, I wouldn’t fight.”
Li Xiyan and Li Xichen realised something halfway through the words: Xiaoyao’s boyfriend?
They looked at Li Xining, but she was not in that place because she had already gone to Lu Yuling.
As soon as Li Xining rushed to Lu Yuling, she was frightened seeing Lu Yuling’s wounded face. She was so upset that she reached up to examine his wounds, saying, “Let me see.”
With a neutral expression, Lu Yuling moved away from her hand and replied, “No need.”
“Let me see!” Feeling uneasy, Li Xining grabbed Lu Yuling’s face firmly with both hands, gazing at him and not letting him move. “Don’t move; otherwise, I’ll tell my brothers to beat you up!”
Lu Yuling: “…”
Fearing he would get beaten up by Li Xining’s brothers. Lu Yuling didn’t move and let the little tigress do as she wished.
Li Xining became more and more upset the longer she stared at him. “Does it hurt?” she asked, lightly placing her thumb on the bruise on his cheek.
Lu Yuling remained unyielding. “No. Have you finished looking?” He then removed his face from her hands by tilting his head. He spoke softly, “Go find your brothers and return to school as soon as possible. This isn’t where you belong.”
‘He still didn’t understand and didn’t appreciate it.’ Li Xining remembered what Lu Yuling said to her in the bar a while ago. And now he was also telling her to leave. Tears filled her eyes, and her face became red with anger. She thought that there was no other fool than Lu Yuling in the entire world. But she still didn’t want to give up. “Come back to school with me. Tomorrow is exam day.”
Lu Yuling scowled, feeling frustrated and powerless. Once there was a little pause, he let out a sigh, turned to face Li Xining, and said, “You really don’t have to be like this.”
Li Xining purposefully questioned, “What if it’s not necessary?” even though she understood what he meant.
Lu Yuling: “You don’t have to treat me so nicely. You don’t need to repay me. When that vehicle came, I couldn’t watch you get run over to death. That evening, even if that was someone else, I would have rescued that one.”
In fact, he was not sure if there was anyone other than Li Xining; he would risk his life in that way. But after knowing what Li Xining was thinking about him, he didn’t want to waste his time to get hurt more.
Li Xining stared glumly at Lu Yuling after being surprised. She inhaled deeply, choked back her tears, and finally exclaimed, “Lu Yuling, you are a fool, a big fool!” She turned and walked away after saying that.
Have a nice day!
