You hidden in my heart - Chapter 38.1
Chapter 38.1
Li Xining avoided eye contact and said nothing to Lu Yuling on the way back to school. It was obvious that she couldn’t forgive him easily.
Lu Yuling was aware that this time he had not only angered her but also wounded her feelings. He was anxious and blamed himself, but it was in vain.
Li Xining didn’t sit with him in the backseat. When she got in the car just now, she went directly to the co-pilot and left him alone in the back seat.
Besides, her brother was still there, so how could Lu Yuling take the initiative to coax the angry girl? Wasn’t it asking for a beating?
Luckily, Li Xichen was not a noisy person. He simply left after dropping them both off at the school gate.
The nightly self-study had not yet come to an end and it was a little past eight o’clock. The school gate was opened.
Lu Yuling raced without hesitation, and after taking a few steps, he stopped Li Xining and said, “I’m sorry.”
Li Xining resisted it and moved to the left to avoid him, but Lu Yuling quickly reacted, moving to the right, stopping her once more, and pleading in a worried manner, “Will you please say anything to me? You can scold or beat me if you’re truly angry.”
He simply couldn’t take it when she ignored him.
Li Xining hung her head and remained silent. After some time, she lifted her head and gave him a crimson glare, saying, “Did you not tell me to quit bothering you? Did you not tell me to leave?”
Except for Lu Yuling, who was so cruel today, she had never experienced such cruelty from anyone since she was a kid. Therefore, her sense of anger grew as she gave it more thought.
Lu Yuling quickly vowed to her, “If I treat you like that again in the future, let me go out and get hit by a car and die!” He was filled with sorrow and felt bad and sorry for her. He also felt like a darn idiot.
Li Xining hated the phrase “killed by a car” since it described her father’s tragedy. She scowled at Lu Yuling, sniffing her sour nose and saying, “I don’t need you to swear an oath; just ignore me in the future.” She pretended to walk away once more once she had finished speaking.
Lu Yuling had to stop her once again because he could not let her go. “I swear to you, this is the only time in my life that I will never do this to you again,” he murmured, looking deeply into her eyes.
Li Xining bit her lip to contain the tears that were still welling up in her eyes despite her ongoing emotions of resentment.
Lu Yuling was so upset to see her in this state that he felt like a total bastard. ‘If Uncle Li is here, he will definitely beat me, making his daughter cry.’ And he was especially worried that she would never be able to forgive him.
He was too scared. “Once upon a time, there was a big fool who liked a girl,” he said to her, taking a deep breath and doing his best to hide all the tension and fear in his heart. “For years, he had feelings for her, but he was afraid to tell her. He didn’t think the girl would like him, so he only dared to give her a candy every day in secret because he felt unworthy of her.”
Li Xining’s eyes filled with tears as soon as she heard this, streaming out of them like a tiny river. It would be a lie to say that she was not moved by Lu Yuling’s words, but she was also really angry. ‘What a fool, a fool that only appears once in a century!’ She cried and angrily said to Lu Yuling, “That’s because he is stupid!”
When Lu Yuling saw that she was crying, her anxiety increased. It was the most hopeless situation he had ever encountered in his life.
With shaky hands, he held her cheeks and wiped her tears, evoking the fear and anxiety of a kid who had made a mistake. “Don’t cry! Don’t bother with an idiot like him; he’s just stupid.”
He said this as if the big fool was not him.
Li Xining continued to cry. She had spent the whole night controlling her tears, but suddenly the dam had broken and she was unable to stop. She cried for a long while until Lu Yuling soothed her and apologised.
Lu Yuling couldn’t help but exhale in relief upon realising that she had stopped crying. A gust of night wind rushed past at this point, sending a shiver down his spine. Then he realised that he was sweating due to anxiety.
Li Xining, however, remained unforgiving. She wanted to give some wisdom to him. She withdrew her cheeks from his grasp while twisting her head. “Lu Yuling and I are over with each other,” she snorted and remarked with a grim expression. “We shall no longer be concerned for one another.”
Lu Yuling was really surprised by how hard it was to get her to cooperate. He was nervous and helpless, saying, “We are not primary school kids. Could we just end things that way?”
Li Xining said, “I don’t make friends with fools, and I’m afraid fools will lower my IQ!”
Lu Yuling let out a sigh, reached for her sleeves, and made a flirtatious plea, saying, “Please, let’s make peace. I beg you, let’s make peace. I will never be stupid again.”
Li Xining did not react; she just withdrew her sleeve from his hand.
Lu Yuling persisted in his coquettish plea, saying, “You have to give me an opportunity, right? Nobody is a saint, are they? And how would I know that you like me if you didn’t tell me?”
Li Xining’s cheeks turned completely red. She felt angry and humiliated. She desired to kill the scoundrel Lu Yuling by beating him. She gave him a firm pinch and asked, “Who likes you? You don’t appeal to me,” she said while pinching him and going away.
Lu Yuling didn’t give a damn about the pain in his arm. “Okay, okay, you don’t like me; it’s my own fault,” he hurried to follow after her. “We are still very close friends, so please accept my apology.”
Li Xining remained angry, asking, “Who would like to be your friend? I have no wish to be friends with idiots!”
After running out of tricks altogether, Lu Yuling spoke the words, “Let’s make peace, I beg you!”
At last, Li Xining paused, looked up at Lu Yuling, and said, “You want me to make peace with you, right?”
Lu Yuling nodded, and then said seriously and firmly, “Let’s make peace and never quarrel again, not in this life!”
It was too exhausting and tiresome to argue. He never wanted to argue with her again, and he would never dare to upset her.
Li Xining’s heart began to soften, and she was nearly ready to forgive him, but then she remembered the foolish thing he had done today, and her heart hardened once more. She needs to give him some advice. “Lu Yuling, let me ask you, where is your rabbit?” she asked, taking a big breath before turning to face him.
Upon hearing the question, Lu Yuling froze. His heart was suddenly in a mess, and he was unable to say a single word – he threw the rabbit away.
With a calm gaze, Li Xining continued. “I saw your school bag today when I went to Ma Pang to ask for a leave note, but I didn’t see the rabbit. Where is the rabbit?”
Have a nice day!
