Chapter 38.2

They were more than just a pair of keychains; there was a deep meaning attached to them. Both knew that the rabbits were the witnesses to the start of their relationship, even if no one had stated it out loud. Therefore, it was like a sign of love.

Lu Yuling was afraid to meet Li Xining’s gaze, so he looked aside with remorse and uneasiness on his face. He licked his parched lips subconsciously before speaking. “Oh, I hung it up on my bag this morning and it fell…”

‘False! You liar!’ Li Xining didn’t reveal Lu Yuling’s lie at first. “Where did it fall?” she asked seriously without showing any strange emotions. 

Lu Yuling could only bite the bullet and respond, “It fell at home.” He didn’t dare to say “I don’t know,” which was the same as saying “I threw the rabbit away.”

Upon hearing such a lie, Li Xining gave Lu Yuling a deep look and said, “Okay, then when you find the rabbit, we will make peace.”

Lu Yuling was lost for words. If he answered “no,”  it would obviously mean that the rabbit was lost. If he answered “okay,”  he was not sure whether he could find the rabbit or not. He was caught in a dilemma.

With a calm expression, Li Xining muttered to herself, “Just pretend; I’ll see how long you can keep pretending!” as she glanced at Lu Yuling. Finally, she looked nervous and urged, saying, “Speak!”

Without giving a “yes” or “no” response, Lu Yuling was prepared to ease the situation by stating, “Well, the rabbit is broken, and there’s a crack on the top of the head. Now it looks ugly. What if I get a different pair that looks better?”

Li Xining was unyielding: “No, I simply like these two. It is unique and handmade.”

Since they were handmade and unique, Lu Yuling was now very worried, and he had no idea where to get a replacement. But he didn’t want to give up. “Keychains are not useful and are often misplaced. What if I purchased a pair of rings?”

Li Xining’s cheeks flushed reddish once again as she gave him an angry, embarrassed stare and said, “I won’t wear a ring with you! Shame on you!”

With confidence, Lu Yuling replied, “How can I be shameless? Li Muchen and his girlfriend wear couple rings, don’t they? 

Li Xining: “I’m not your girlfriend! I’m not even friends with you! I have no desire to be friends with idiots!”

Whatever Li Xining said, Lu Yuling was still trying to persuade her. “Key chains are easy to break and lose, but rings are not.”

Li Xining raised an eyebrow and looked at the fool in front of her for a while. “Lu Yuling, did you lose the rabbit?”

Despite his fear, Lu Yuling confidently replied, “I didn’t lose it!”

‘Okay, Mr. Lu, let’s see how long you can act.’ Li Xining firmly said, “Okay, Lu Yuling, I will trust you again. If you can find the rabbit tomorrow, we will reconcile. If you can’t find it, don’t come to talk to me until you find the rabbit.” After that, she didn’t look at him again and walked away.

Lu Yuling sighed and said nothing more. He was at a loss for words after his attempt to convince her had failed. All he could think about was that he would have to dig through the garbage can later as he followed her. Therefore, he felt like a child who had made a mistake.

The second session of the evening self-study class had just ended and the two made their way back to the classroom.

Lu Yuling entered the classroom through the back door, and Li Xining entered through the front door to avoid raising any red flags. 

The moment Xu Dongruo, the sly little genius, laid eyes on Li Xining, she could smell gossip. She quickly looked at the back of the classroom and found out Lu Yuling was there. What was even more intriguing was that Lu Yuling had a wound on his face.

“You really found him back! “Where did you find him?” Xu Dongruo began to make fun of her as soon as Li Xining sat on her chair. “He was genuinely eager to come back with you? Have you given him a beating? Domestic violence?”

‘Domestic violence! I didn’t touch him!’ Li Xining was confused. “I beat him? Do you think I can beat him?”

Xu Dongruo: “It’s not always true. This conclusion is correct since he wouldn’t dare fight back if you hit him.”

‘You actually think I’m a tigress?’ Enraged, Li Xining soon clarified, saying, “I didn’t beat him. Not a hair on his head was touched by me.”

“Then what’s wrong with his face?” asked Xu Dongruo.

With a sigh, Li Xining started explaining what had happened to Xu Dongruo. 

Several people in the back row noticed Lu Yuling as soon as he entered the classroom and saw a wound on his face.

Suddenly, the seven or eight guys thought to themselves. ‘Damn it, Brother Lu got beat up by the Xining goddess! Domestic abuse!’

Upon noticing Lu Yuling seated on the chair, Fatty Ma asked, “Brother, does your face hurt?” with empathy and worry.

Lu Yuling was still thinking about the rabbit key chain, so he didn’t detect the emotions on the other’s faces. “It’s okay,” he just replied.

Ma Pang sighed and shook his head. 

At this point, Li Muchen turned to face his brother Lu and said sincerely, “Brother, pay attention to what I’m saying. Don’t skip class. Just put in a lot of study time. It is well known that the Xining goddess is difficult to deal with; therefore, avoid doing so at all costs to avoid further beatings.”

Ma Pang and the students surrounding him continued nodding, their eyes instructing him to be quiet or else he would get more beating in the future. 

 ‘The Xining Goddess is not someone to play with.’

 ‘I wouldn’t allow her to abuse me in this way, even if I was afraid of her!’ Lu Yuling became furious when he realised what they were thinking at last. “Who are you casting your shadow over? Did she hit me? Is she still willing to hit me?” With a haughty expression, Lu Yuling said, “Even if I gave her ten guts, she wouldn’t dare touch me!”

 ‘Ha, he was just being a coward.‘ Nobody thought he was serious. Nobody said anything, and everyone just stared at him pitifully.

Though he was furious, he wanted to save his face. “Let’s not discuss whether or not I’m afraid of her. Do you honestly think she can actually beat me up? Look at our height and physical strength.”

Ma Pang said firmly, “Brother, let me ask you first: if the Xining goddess wants to beat you, do you dare to fight back?” Ma Pang thought it would be best if Lu Yuling understood the reality first. 

Lu Yuling: “It’s not that I don’t dare to fight back; it’s that a good man doesn’t fight with a woman.”

Ma Pang: “So Xining Goddess beating you up is real? It’s not a matter of whether she can physically beat you up or not; rather, it’s a matter of whether she desires to do so.”

When Lu Yuling realised the meaning behind Ma Pang’s words, he was startled to realise he couldn’t think of any flaws.

Ma Pang went on. “So, if Goddess Xining wants to beat you up, she will definitely be able to beat you up, right?”

Lu Yuling: “Ahem.”

Ma Pang said, “So, brother, you better behave yourself in the future, or you will really get beaten up!”

Other boys around Lu Yuling nodded in agreement with Ma Pang’s statements.

Lu Yuling was at a loss for words and could only “accept” that he was being mistreated. Simultaneously, he abruptly realised that Ma Pang was an exceptionally intelligent person. Lu Yuling sighed in helplessness as he gave Ma Pang a firm slap on the large, meaty shoulders and said, “Pang’er, if I can become an actor in the future, I will definitely hire you as my screenwriter.”

Ma Pang said bluntly, “Brother, I think this statement is unrealistic. Movie kings basically have to devote themselves to art. Kissing scenes and s*x scenes are basic operations of dedication. You definitely don’t dare to kiss other women in front of the Xining goddess, let alone s*x scenes. Unless you want to die, you can’t be a movie king.”

‘Yes, it’s true!’ Lu Yuling still couldn’t deny Ma Pang’s words. 

At this time the bell rang; everyone hastily went back to their seats, and the classroom soon became silent again.
