Chapter 39.2

After riding a few metres, Li Xining noticed that no one was close by and hit the brakes. Then she quickly realised that the boy was keeping distance with her to avoid drawing suspicion. ‘But why did they want to avoid suspicion? Is it because of that post? Or is it to show off to the teacher?’

Li Xining couldn’t understand Lu Yuling’s thoughts. ‘Although we like each other, we have never crossed the line, nor have we brought about any bad influence. Why should we avoid suspicion? It’s unfair!’

Li Xining hesitated for a few moments before turning to face Lu Yuling and saying, “Come here!”

Despite not knowing Li Xining’s motivation for wanting him, Lu Yuling rode towards her. “What’s wrong?”

Li Xining inhaled deeply and spoke to Lu Yuling in a serious, word-for-word manner, as though she had just made a big decision: “We don’t need to avoid each other.”

Lu Yuling said in shock, “Ah? Ah?”

“There was nothing between us before; why should we avoid suspicion?” Li Xining retorted. “Do you want to satisfy that bastard who posted that post? She is dreaming!”

When Lu Yuling realised what she was saying, he grinned. He sensed that the small tigress was growing bolder and more human-like. ‘Yes, the wife joins in on the husband’s singing.‘ Then he arched his eyebrows at her and asked seriously, “Aren’t you afraid that the grade head and Lao Zhou will punish you?”

With assurance, Li Xining uttered, “Why are they punishing me? I didn’t fall in love with you too soon!”

With a serious face, Lu Yuling said, “We really cannot be regarded as innocent. You have visited my home, held my hand, embraced my waist, and ate the food I prepared for you. Do I remain innocent? There is no innocence between us; you have long since destroyed my innocence. Lao Zhou has good grounds to punish us.”

‘This man!’ Li Xining’s was speechless for a few seconds. After she gained her senses, she said, “Lu Yuling, don’t think that not avoiding suspicion means reconciliation. I will reconcile with you only when I see the rabbit; otherwise, we will never be friends again.”

“Look at you; you have the mentality of an elementary school student, breaking up at the slightest provocation.” With a sigh, Lu Yuling reached into his school uniform pocket with his right hand and got out a piece of Orion cake. “Let’s make peace,” he said, adding, “and we’ll still be good friends in the future.”

‘Oh, what wonderful friends we are. Le’t see who the elementary student is.’ In an instant, Li Xining lost all composure and exclaimed, laughing and acting aggressively, “Why are you so annoying?”

“How are you against me? Do you have any idea how far I went last night to buy this Orion piece?” Lu Yuling started acting like the victim in an attempt to win the young tigress’s forgiveness as quickly as possible. “The supermarket downstairs from our house was closed, so I rode my bike for more than ten minutes to another supermarket to buy it for you.”

With an eye roll, Li Xining remarked, “That’s because you’re stupid!” After staring at the Lu Yuling’s hand for two seconds, she reached out to grab it and

put it into her pocket. Then, without saying a word, she rode her bike.

Lu Yuling hurried after her and asked expectantly, “Are we reconciled?”

Li Xining said proudly, “No, I won’t make peace with you.”

Lu Yuling: “Then you pick up my food?”

Li Xining: “How about I give it back to you?”

Sighing, Lu Yuling said very seriously, “Li Xining, we haven’t even started dating yet, and you’re torturing me like this. If we really start dating in the future, I think I’ll die in your hands.”

Li Xining flushed and wanted to argue, but she was unsure of how to do so. She thought hard to find the suitable words to reply, but she was unsuccessful. After staring at the boy stupidly for a while, she just barked, “Then are you willing?”

Lu Yuling said without hesitation, “I do.”

Li Xining glanced at him and said nothing more.

They both rode their bikes and pushed them all the way to the parking lot when they reached the school entrance.

When they locked the bikes together, Li Xining suddenly said to Lu Yuling, “When you can get into the top 200 in your grade, I’ll promise you that no matter what happens in the future, there will be no overnight grudges, and we can reconcile.”

She offered him another chance, but this time she didn’t bring up the rabbit again, as if she had assumed he wouldn’t be able to find it.

Furthermore, it was not a high requirement to be in the top 200 of the grade. Lu Yuling would undoubtedly be allowed in as long as he was prepared to put in a lot of effort.

Lu Yuling asked, “Really?” with shock and disbelief.

Li Xining said with a nod, “Really.”

Lu Yuling affirmed with her once more after taking a long breath, saying, “Let’s be clear. Liars are dogs.”

‘Why is he like a child?’ Li Xining had no choice but to promise him. “Okay, a liar is a puppy.”

After gaining the guarantee, Lu Yuling’s heart, which had been restless all night, finally settled down. He questioned again, “What if I can get into the top 100 in the grade?” after giving it some thought.

The top 100 pupils in the city’s first grade undoubtedly compete at important universities.

Li Xining thought that Lu Yuling would find this a little challenging. Ultimately, the basis of his current learning was inadequate. Even for a bright student, it was challenging to go from a low achiever to a high performer in a matter of months. But she didn’t want to put Lu Yuling down for his enthusiasm, so she answered, “What reward do you want?”

Lu Yuling said, “I want you to be my girlfriend, and we’ll never break up,” out loud.

After being startled, Li Xining felt a sudden heat wave come over her face, and it felt like a fire all the way up to her ears.

When she remained silent, Lu Yuling couldn’t help but become anxious. After his mother’s death, he didn’t have any goals in life before and lived in a daze, as if he were stuck in a quagmire, until she came to him, reached out, and pulled him out of the muddy black pool. From then on, she became his goal, his belief, and his light.

All his efforts now were for her.

He put a lot of effort into climbing the high mountain she was standing on since he realised that she wasn’t worthy of him right now. Eventually, he would have to match her height. He wouldn’t feel comfortable being with her until then. If she chooses not to, then what should he do? Lu Yuling was a little worried since she remained silent, but he dared not press her for an answer, so he could only cautiously ask, “Do you agree?”

Li Xining was still blushing, and she was hesitant to talk for a few moments. She wanted to speak but was unable.

It was then that Li Xining realised it was intentional. Her cheeks were nearly as crimson as an autumn apple, as she felt ashamed and furious. She gazed at him viciously, then turned and fled.

Lu Yuling used his long legs to his advantage as he rushed after her. After only a few feet, he caught up with her, and they strolled side by side. He was a little too proud of himself, maybe because he had just tasted the sweetness, and he even began to push his luck. He took the conversation to a higher plane than his girlfriend. “Hey, would you be willing to be my wife if I could get into the same university as you? Then we can be together for the rest of our lives.”

“Don’t talk nonsense!” Fearing that those words would be heard by others, Li Xining was startled and hastily turned to see whether anyone was nearby.

Lu Yuling consoled her upon witnessing this, saying, “Don’t be afraid; we are still innocent now.”

“Lu Yuling, will you die if you don’t speak?” an angry Li Xining demanded.

With seriousness, Lu Yuling uttered, “I’m not kidding you; I’m serious.”

Li Xining felt that he was teasing her again, just like he pretended not to hear her in the parking lot just now, so she didn’t take his words seriously and replied unhappily, “Get rid of the bottom of the class first.”

Lu Yuling sighed, a little disappointed, but did not force her. “Think about it carefully first; there are still several months; don’t rush, but I think you are my girlfriend; it’s not bad to be my wife, right?”

Li Xining said the same thing, “Get rid of the bottom of the class first!”
