Chapter 39.3
When the two entered the classroom, it was 6.25 a.m., and Teacher Zhou was already in the classroom.
The time difference between Li Xining and Lu Yuling entering the classroom was only five seconds, despite the fact that Li Xining entered through the front door and Lu Yuling entered through the back.
It was obvious to everybody who was perceptive that they entered the classroom together.
It made Teacher Zhou feel both enraged and powerless. Even though he had cautioned everyone and said everything he needed to say yesterday, these two continued to act in their own way. Honestly, there wasn’t much he could do.
However, a class teacher needed to act as a class teacher, so he immediately loudly called out Lu Yuling’s name.
The whole class fell silent in an instant, waiting for Lao Zhou to lose his temper.
On the right side of the chalkboard, in the violation column, Lu Yuling’s name was still there.
Li Xining wrote it last night while studying in the evening.
The punishment for that was to stand in front of the classroom the next day.
But instead of being angry, Old Zhou simply gave Lu Yuling a sullen look.
Lu Yuling had nothing more to say and simply got up, holding the book, since he had long anticipated Lao Zhou to have this mindset after seeing his name on the board.
Based on his attendance record for the last two days, it appeared that the hallway had been his second classroom.
After Lu Yuling left the classroom, everyone focused on their work again.
Li Xining was also not affected by that. She believed that Lu Yuling would learn a lesson if he faced necessary punishments.
She was less anxious than she had been the day before, and her attention was on the book she was reading.
Old Zhou gave Li Xining a stern look for a long time. His intention was to scold her further, but he changed his mind upon remembering that he had done so yesterday. Honestly, there wasn’t much more to say. He would be talking to her in circles if he went on, and she would not listen.
Lao Zhou let out a deep breath of powerlessness and made the decision to forgo speaking with her for the time being in order to get ready to make amends later.
He intended to postpone making a decision until after the exam results this month were announced. Li Xining’s parents would undoubtedly be called if her performance faltered!
*****
The exam began promptly at nine o’clock, and the examination building came alive at 8:40 a.m. as the bell rang.
Students, carrying their schoolbags and holding their entry admissions, walked to find their exam rooms listlessly or vigorously.
The examination rooms of Xu Dongruo and Li Xining were adjacent to one another. Xu Dongruo was in the second examination room, while the latter was in the first.
Before they parted, they decided to have lunch together after the exam.
Lu Yuling’s exam room was further away.
Lao Zhou summoned him to the office before his departure, where the teacher gave the student several lectures before letting him go.
It was nearly half past eight, and the exam was about to start when he left Lao Zhou’s office.
He never worried about being late for the exam in the past. If he was late, he wouldn’t sit for the exam. But this time, it was different. It was a labour of love for Li Xining. To taste the taste of premature love, he had to place in the top 100 of his class to graduate from high school. Otherwise, all his hopes would vanish.
So upon exiting the head teacher’s office, he ran to the examination building.
On the way, he suddenly saw an admission slip dropped on the ground.
The monthly exams at No. 1 Middle School were completely based on the college entrance examination model, and students couldn’t enter the examination room without an admission slip.
Lu Yuling looked more closely after subconciously picking up the white entry slip off the ground. It was Chen Lin’s.
‘What a coincidence.’
At this time, hurried footsteps were heard on the stairs. Lu Yuling leaned over and saw that the person coming was the owner of the admission slip.
Chen Lin hurried down the stairs, inspecting the entire staircase from below. He was clearly here to find his admission slip, and he paid no attention at all to Lu Yuling, who was standing above him.
Morality dictating, Lu Yuling’s initial response was to return the entry ticket to its rightful owner. But the next second, logic won out, and he realised. ‘I’m not a white lotus in the rich world; why should I give the admission ticket back to my romantic rival?’
Lu Yuling would return the entry slip to him if it were anyone else, but that person was Chen Lin.
Although Li Xining did not say it explicitly, Lu Yuling knew it was Chen Lin who was trying to show discord between the two of them. Otherwise, they would not have ended up this way.
‘Since Chen Lin seems like a nice guy on the outside, I can’t just beat him up or scold him like a mean guy. I can only give him a taste of his own medicine. Anyway, Chen’s life path won’t be impacted by this exam.’
Lu Yuling hastily tucked the admission slip into his pocket before Chen Lin left downstairs. Then, acting as though he hadn’t seen Chen Lin, he walked past him without issue. He took out Chen Lin’s admission slip from his pocket as soon as he arrived at the teaching area’s door, ripped it to pieces, and tossed it in the trash bin.
‘Dad Lu will always be Dad Lu to you. It was dad’s fault in the past for not educating you well. This time, I must educate you well.’
*****
Li Xining ranked second in the grade in the last monthly exam and sat in seat number two in examination room one for this exam. Chen Lin ranked eighth and sat in seat number eight in examination room one, right next to Li Xining.
The exam was about to start, but Chen Lin’s seat was still empty. Li Xining couldn’t help but be surprised. ‘Why is he not here? Did he ask for leave? That was impossible… I saw him just now on the way to the hall. Could it be that his admission slip was lost?’
Li Xining was at a loss as to why Chen Lin, who placed a high value on grades, would miss the exam aside from this.
She simply believed Chen Lin was a little distant before seeing through his true self.
But now that she saw through him, she knew that he was not only aloof but also two-faced. Although he was not insidious, he was definitely not a good person.
Chen Lin had never lost pride. He was favoured by teachers for various reasons, such as his excellent familial background, nice looks, and exceptional academic success; thus, he constantly silently looked down on the less fortunate pupils in the class.
His once-proud grades would tumble, and he would be put in the same exam room as those folks the next time if he skipped the exam due to misplacing his entry card. That would undoubtedly be his hard blow.
But Li Xining would never feel sorry for him or have sympathy for him. Rather, she believed that Chen Lin was worthy of it.
Before he could learn how to be a decent person, he needed to be slapped by reality because he was too self-righteous.
When the bell rang and the comprehensive scientific test started, Chen Lin was still nowhere to be seen.
Li Xining gave Chen Lin no more thought. She started answering questions as soon as the bell rang and gave the exam her whole attention.
However, Li Xining would never sympathise with him or feel sorry for him. Instead, he felt that Chen Lin deserved it. He was too self-righteous and needed to be hit by reality before he could learn how to be a good person.
The bell rang and the comprehensive science test officially began, but Chen Lin still didn’t come, and he was definitely going to miss the test.
Li Xining stopped thinking about Chen Lin. As soon as the bell rang, she started answering questions and took the exam with full concentration.
