Chapter 47.2

Li Xining was caught off guard and was startled. However, she did not open the door immediately but put her eyes to the peephole on the door.

At first, Li Xining thought it was Lu Yuling, but after seeing the people outside through the peephole, she was shocked.

It was not Lu Yuling but his biological father and biological grandparents.

‘Why are they here?’

Li Xining couldn’t understand what to do. She wasn’t even sure if she ought to open the door.

She didn’t bother changing her shoes and ran straight to the living room.

“Grandpa! That guy, Lu Yuling’s father, no, no, no, Uncle Zhao, Uncle Zhao and his parents are here!” She lowered her voice as much as possible and exclaimed. She was so anxious that she couldn’t even speak clearly.

Mr. Li was not startled by this because it appeared that he had anticipated this family’s return. He even snorted. “The weasel is wishing the chicken a happy new year. It has no good intentions.”

Mrs. Li pushed her husband with her elbow and scolded him in a low voice. “Keep your voice down. People outside the door can hear you.”

Mr. Li stated confidently, “What’s wrong with hearing it? I just informed them.”

“What are you standing there for?” Mrs. Li asked Li Xining as she got up, rolling her eyes at the old man. “Would you mind opening the door for them?”

“Oh.” Li Xining hurried back as soon as she was told what to do, stood in front of the door, inhaled deeply, and opened it.

Old Mr. Zhao was standing in front of the group. When he saw Li Xining, she smiled brightly and said amiably, “Little one.”

“Hello, Grandpa. Hello, Grandma.” Then she looked at Zhao Hailan, who was standing at the back, and said, “Hello, Uncle.”

Zhao Hailan smiled at her gently and nodded slightly.

At this time, Old Lady Li also walked to the door. No matter how much she disliked the Zhao family, she had always been a sensible woman in her life. She greeted the guests with a warm smile. “Hey, rare guests. What brings you here? Come in; it’s cold outside.”

Li Xining quickly stepped aside to make way.

The three members of the Zhao family were all carrying expensive presents.

Mr. Zhao grinned as he entered the house and said, “Isn’t it Chinese New Year? We came to see Old Li and you. Old Li?” He then yelled out to Mr. Li. “I came to wish you a happy new year!”

Mr. Li had been sitting on the sofa without moving. After hearing Mr. Zhao’s call, he teased in an indifferent tone. “What year is this? It’s really rare that you can come to wish me a happy new year!”

However, old Mr. Zhao didn’t get angry at old Mr. Li’s words. He walked straight towards Mr. Li with a bright smile and said with a flattery tone, “I missed you, so I came to see you.”

Li Xining nearly burst out laughing at this statement, and she thought the elderly Zhao family member had excellent psychological traits. She now understood, though, that the Zhao family’s visit today must have something to do with Lu Yuling and was not even intended as a New Year’s welcome.

The elderly Zhao family couple had been ogling Lu Yuling during yesterday’s birthday party. They even went to Lu Yuling, apologised for their granddaughter’s behaviour, and said not to bother with the ignorant girl.

Lu Yuling didn’t know the inside story and didn’t think too much about it. He just thought that the old couple was apologising to him on behalf of their granddaughter, so he didn’t embarrass the two old people and nodded in agreement.

However, Li Xining knew that the old couple of the Zhao family had other intentions. They just wanted to find an opportunity to chat with Lu Yuling and resolve the conflict between them.

One could imagine that there was a mess when the Zhao family got home yesterday.

Although Zhao Cichu was spoilt by the old couple, they were clamouring for a grandson. Suddenly their wish came true; they must be as anxious as ants on a hot pan, wishing their precious grandson could come home quickly; otherwise, they would not have come to visit their house today.

The nanny of the Li family went back to her hometown to celebrate the New Year and will not be back until tomorrow, so after all the Zhao family members were seated, Li Xining and her grandmother went to the kitchen to prepare hot tea for the Zhao family.

“Xiaoyao is wearing such a nice outfit today. Did you just come back, or are you getting ready to go out?” Mr. Zhao asked Li Xining abruptly as she brought the tea back to the living room.

After a moment of shock, Li Xining recalled that she had a date with Lu Yuling, and now it was already six o’clock. “I have to go out!” she exclaimed hastily, setting down the tea tray.

“What time would you meet with him?” Mr. Li asked.

Li Xining, “Six o’clock…”

“Then go quickly. Oh, take a taxi.” Mr. Li waved his hand at her swiftly.

“Okay!” Li Xining nodded.

But before she could leave, Mr. Zhao asked, “Xiaoyao, who are you going on a date with?”

Li Xining was too ashamed to admit that it was with Lu Yuling in front of so many people, and she responded with a flushed face, “Just a classmate.”

“Oh, male or female classmates?” Mr. Zhao insisted on asking, even if he might have surmised something. “Is it Lu, the boy from yesterday?”

Li Xining could only nod at this point in the question.

Mr. Zhao, who was so calm just now, was now very anxious. “Where would you two meet? Indoors or outdoors? Then you should go quickly; don’t keep him waiting for too long. It’s very cold; it’s easy to get frozen.”

Li Xining: “…”

‘Mr. Zhao is still the same Mr. Zhao, protecting his people as always.’

When Mr. Li heard this, he was unhappy and looked at Mr. Zhao unhappily. “Do I need you to teach my granddaughter?” After saying that, he looked at Li Xining again and said angrily, “Little one, sit down. You are not going today.”

Mr. Zhao was also unhappy. “Look at you. Two kids are going on a date, and you have to butt in!”

Mr. Li was about to continue arguing with Mr. Zhao, but at this moment, Zhao Hailan, who had been silent since entering the room, suddenly stood up from the sofa, looked at Li Xining with a warm expression, and said in a gentle tone, “Where do you two meet? I’ll take you there.”

Quickly, Mr. Zhao said, “Yes, yes, yes. You take Xiaoyao there, Hailan. Getting a cab today is difficult and will take some time.”

Li Xining was taken aback. She gave them a puzzled look before turning her head to see her grandfather.

This time, Mr. Li did not refuse directly. He pondered for a moment and said to Li Xining, “Let Uncle Zhao take you there. It is really difficult to get a taxi today.”

“Oh.” Li Xining probably understood her grandfather’s intention, so she didn’t refuse and said to Zhao Hailan, “Thank you, Uncle Zhao.”

Zhao Hailan smiled casually and said, “Let’s go.”
