“Did my dad really say that?” she blurted out softly after a while.

 Lu Yuling declared. “It was exactly what Uncle Li said. I would be a dog if I lied to you.”

After giving him a fierce look, Li Xining replied, “That’s what my father said, and it has nothing to do with me.”

With a solemn expression, Lu Yuling remarked, “Why don’t you pay attention to your father’s words? This kind of disobedience to Uncle Li is not acceptable to me. You must be my bride because I have to raise you to be a filial daughter.”

‘It makes sense why he gave my dad so much praise that day in the kitchen.’ Upon hearing such arrogant words, Li Xining gave him a nasty look. “Uncle Li! You call him so affectionately.”

Lu Yuling purposefully said the words to make Li Xining frustrated. “Uncle Li often bought toys for me when I was a child and even attended parent-teacher conferences.”

Li Xining wanted to beat the person to death who had stolen her father. “Okay, Lu Yuling, even if you die, I will tell my mother about this when I go back!” She said, taking a big breath and looking at him without expressing any emotion.

 Lu Yuling immediately realised the seriousness of the situation, and he quickly said these words to coax the girl. “Don’t you think Uncle Li treated me like that because of you?”

“He bought toys for you, and what benefit do I get from it?” 

“Uncle Li was kind to me when I was a kid,” Lu Yuling stated solemnly. “Because he wanted to keep that in my heart and later treat his daughter with respect. Don’t you think so? Li Xining, tell me honestly. Am I treating you well now?”

Li Xining held back her laughter and muttered, “Not good!”

Lu Yuling: “Okay, then I will treat you better in the future until you are satisfied.”

“You annoying b*stard!” Li Xining continued to reprimand the boy. However, she stopped seeking “revenge for stealing her father” with him after that. She placed her cheek on his chest instead and snuggled in his arms obediently.

Lu Yuling didn’t say anything and just held her quietly.

“Lu Yuling, if you become a superstar in the future, will you still remember what my father said?” Li Xining questioned him softly after a while.

Lu Yuling was a person with a mind to achieve his dream no matter what. From the moment he first performed on stage with a guitar at the age of fourteen, he wanted to become an excellent singer and a superstar.

He loved and enjoyed it very much.

He also understood why Li Xining asked that and knew the girl was somewhat scared. “Don’t worry; I won’t forget it.” His voice was firm.

Li Xining: “You’d better keep your word.”

With a grin, Lu Yuling reached out and pinched the girl’s cheek lightly. 

“What? Are you afraid that I will not want you anymore?”

Li Xining murmured, “Tsk. No!”

“I want to be a singer, not a traffic star like Shen Siqi,” Lu Yuling said seriously, without exposing the girl’s lie. “Are you still worried that I will not love you anymore after becoming a singer?”

“Oh, don’t drag Shen Siqi for everything.” Li Xining muttered shyly. “He didn’t provoke you.”

Lu Yuling said confidently, “Why didn’t he provoke me? My wife liked him, so it’s reasonable for me not to like him.”

 Li Xining was annoyed. “Who is your wife? Shame on you!”

 Lu Yuling smiled and replied, “Your father gave you to me, so you are my wife.” Then he asked, “By the way, how do you know that I know your father?”

Hearing that, Li Xining was stunned and suddenly became a little panicked. She definitely couldn’t tell Lu Yuling the truth; otherwise, he would definitely explode, and it would affect his college entrance examination. Fortunately, she reacted quickly and replied in a natural and calm tone. “Oh, I heard from my grandfather that your mother always came to my house to play when she was young, so my father and your mother must have a good relationship. So I guessed that he might know you too.”

Lu Yuling did not doubt her words. “Then your guess is quite accurate.”

Li Xining asked curiously, “Have you known my father since you were born? Or did you meet him later?”

Lu Yuling was honest. “I was five years old when we first met. I had just returned to Xifu a short while earlier with my mother. She took me to a restaurant in the West so she could play the piano to earn some money. That’s where we met your father.”

Li Xining exclaimed, “Isn’t this too coincidental?” 

 “That’s right, it’s all fate.” Lu Yuling lightly scratched the girl’s chin and muttered, looking at her eyes. “What does that mean? It indicates that we are meant to be together.”

“Let’s talk about it after you get into the top 100 in the grade!”

“Don’t worry, Li Xining. I will definitely let you know what puppy love is before you graduate from high school!” As he said that, Lu Yuling wanted to pinch her ears, but then he noticed a small braid sticking out from under the brim of her hat. He smiled and asked, “Do you still braid your hair?”

‘Unexpectedly, this fool actually found it!’ Li Xining was so surprised that she immediately took off her hat and looked at him with shining eyes. “Does it look good?”

Lu Yuling: “It looks good!”

“My grandma braided my hair,” Li Xining stated with a hint of pride, clearly pleased. “She was very good at braiding hair. When she was young, many girls had asked her to braid their hair before they got married.”

“Are you going to get married today?” Lu Yuling asked thoughtfully.

Li Xining’s cheeks flushed once more, and she smacked him once more, saying, “Hateful!”

Lu Yuling hugged the girl, saying, “Okay, okay, hate me.”

Li Xining was annoyed. “Lu Yuling, don’t hug me. My legs are cold.”

Lu Yuling had no choice but to let her go. “Shall we go for a walk?”

Li Xining nodded.

Lu Yuling took her hand, and the two walked along the brightly lit riverside.

Many people were admiring the lanterns on the riverbank. 

Snowflakes were floating in the sky, and some fell on the tip of Li Xining’s nose. She felt cool and numb, and she subconsciously raised her hand to rub it; then looked at Lu Yuling again.

There were uncountable living beings in this enormous world. The two of them meeting and moving on together in this vast and complicated world was such a unique destiny.

 Li Xining pondered before muttering, “Lu Yuling, you must be admitted to Xifu University.” After a moment of hesitation, she muttered again, “I don’t want to have a long-distance relationship.”

Lu Yuling smiled and looked at her sideways. “Don’t worry, my little wife,” he whispered.
