As soon as the school started, students had to sit for another monthly exam.

Lu Yuling ranked 203rd in the whole grade in the final exam of the previous semester. It was just five points away from being in 200th place. 

So, Lu Yuling spent the entire winter vacation studying hard, to get into the top 150 in the next monthly exam. Although the ultimate goal was to be in the top 100 in the grade, he also knew that nothing could be achieved overnight, and it had to be done step by step.

However, the higher the ranking, the greater the competition would be. 

After working hard over the winter vacation, Princess Lu only improved by 24 places and scored 179th in the grade. Although he did not reach the top 150, his efforts were not in vain. The key score-line set by the school in the monthly exam was exactly 180th place, and he successfully leaped an ordinary reserve student to a key training target.

In fact, according to his current grades, it would be no problem for him to apply for the Music Department of Xifu University after taking the art examination. 

However, his ultimate goal was not just to go to the same university as Li Xining. He wanted to experience the feeling of premature love before graduating from high school, so he became obsessed with rising into the top 100 in his grade. 

The first mock exam was held one month after the start of school, and this time, Lu Yuling set a goal for himself to be in the top 140 in the grade.

Luckily, he ranked exactly 140th place. It was more than 40 places above the key line but still 40 places below the top 100 in the grade.

There were still three months before the college entrance examination, and it seemed having puppy love was impossible. However, Lu Yuling did not give up easily and still maintained his enthusiasm for study. Even the grade leader who used to criticise him was moved by his spirit and even let him be a student representative to speak on the stage at the 100-day oath-taking ceremony.

The grade head teacher’s original goal was to take Lu Yuling as an example and encourage other backward students to achieve their goals in their education.

 But what the grade head teacher did not anticipate was that the audience cheered and yelled “Li Xining” as soon as Lu Yuling got on the podium.

 First, it started with two or three students, but eventually, the entire grade joined the fun.

 An oath-taking ceremony was turned into a matchmaking ceremony.

 The head teacher regretted his decision. ‘How did I forget that this guy started to study hard because of a girl?’

 With an unquestioning gaze, Lu Yuling stood up straight, reached out to hold the microphone, and said, “Okay, be quiet.”

 He had been known as a delinquent student in a rich family in all the teachers’ eyes. However, he showed such an upright and serious side on stage this time. His tone was so serious and decisive, like a general giving orders in front of thousands of soldiers.

 The audience became silent.

 The head teacher couldn’t help but value Lu Yuling even more and thought that this youngster would grow up to be a brilliant man.

 Every word Lu Yuling said was concise and powerful, and his voice was particularly expressive, mellow, and magnetic. His words touched others’ hearts, and the atmosphere of the oath-taking ceremony was quickly mobilised by him.

 After the speech, the audience was silent for two seconds and then burst into thunderous applause.

 Lu Yuling looked calm, bowed gracefully, and walked off the stage.

 From that moment, Lu Yuling’s reputation among the teachers and students completely changed 180 degrees.

 On the way home from school that night, Li Xining ignored Lu Yuling. When Lu Yuling saw the little tiger like this, he knew that she must be jealous again.

 Since she was jealous, he must coax her.

 “Come on, tell me. Who has offended you? I’ll help you deal with that person,” Lu Yuling said in a gentle voice while looking at the girl’s face. ‘Who am I mad at? I’m mad at you! Who made you so attractive to other people?’

 After the oath-taking ceremony, she and Xu Dongruo went to the cafeteria. As a result, she heard Lu Yuling’s name everywhere, and those who discussed him were girls. But this was not enough to make her jealous. After all, she was not that petty. What made her angry was that two girls suddenly sat in the seat next to her when she was eating. 

 Although they were in a different class than Li Xining, she was somewhat familiar with them. They even greeted Li Xining and Xu Dongruo when they sat there. 

 After responding courteously, the four ate their meals without saying anything more.

 However, just when Li Xining was about to finish her meal, one of the students next to her suddenly asked her, “Xining, are you and Lu Yuling together now?”

 That girl was a beauty with fair skin, an oval face, and phoenix eyes. 

‘What I mean is that the reason I can’t let him have a relationship now is not because he doesn’t like me, but because I don’t agree.’ Li Xining instantly smelled a provocation from her words and immediately became alert. Although her expression did not change, her tone was full of possessiveness when she spoke. “He is only ranked 140th in the grade, and he needs to continue to improve.”

 The girl understood the hidden meaning of Li Xining’s words and still had a smile on her face. She kindly reminded her. “Then you better be careful. There are so many people watching Lu Yuling now. If you don’t hurry up, he might be snatched away by someone.”

 After saying that, the girl took the food tray and left without giving Li Xining a chance to speak again.

 Li Xining was very angry after hearing that.

 On the way back from the cafeteria, she heard some girls talking about Lu Yuling. 

 “I never thought Lu Yuling’s voice was so nice before. It’s so sweet. He must be very seductive when he says sweet words.”

 Since Li Xining had never heard Lu Yuling express such kind things before, her face darkened even more. ‘It seems this b*stard didn’t want to fall in love with me but directly marry me.’

 She didn’t want to enter the old married couple mode directly; she wanted a sweet love first.

 When Xu Dongruo saw this, she instantly consoled her friend, understanding her feelings. “Hey, don’t be upset. Aren’t you two still in love? How can he say nice things to you when you are not his girlfriend?”

 “He is like a dog that can’t spit out ivory,” Li Xining remarked sourly.

“I didn’t expect him to say sweet words!”

 ‘Alas, a woman who says one thing but means another.’ Xu Dongruo was helpless. “Then why are you angry?”

 Li Xining was speechless. After a while, she asked with a little concern. “What do you think will happen if he doesn’t rank in the top 100 in his grade before the college entrance examination?”

 In fact, she was especially anticipating the day Lu Yuling would tell her he loved her. Although they both knew each other’s feelings now, no one had taken the initiative to say sweet words like “I like you” or “I love you” to each other. She wanted to hear Lu Yuling say such words to her.

 But now she was a little worried. If he didn’t make it into the top 100 in the grade, would she get so angry that he wouldn’t confess to her?

 Knowing Li Xining’s thoughts, Xu Dongruo replied, “Are you worried that he doesn’t want you right now? What were you doing before? Didn’t you set the goal of placing him among the top 100 students in the grade?”

 Curling her lips, Li Xining murmured, “Let’s talk about this matter, and don’t change the subject!” 

 “You’re worrying about nothing,” sniffed Xu Dongruo. “Your Princess Lu has thick skin, and her heart is so strong that even a knife can’t pierce it. There’s no such situation as you’re worried about. No matter whether he can get into the top 100 in the grade or not, he will definitely come and confess his love to you!”

 “Rally?”

 Xu Dongruo stated. “Yes! Trust me! I’ll chop off his head and deliver it to you if he doesn’t come to tell you that he loves you.”

 She spoke so firmly that Li Xining was inspired to say, “Okay, I’ll believe you this time!”

 However, she was still deeply offended by Lu Yuling’s romantic nature, so she purposefully avoided him after school.
