Lu Yuling applied for the music major at the Xi’an Fudan University Conservatory of Music.

The registration would be closed at 5 pm on July 7.

Before he enrolled in the course, Lu Yuling talked with Li Xining several times every day to confirm whether Li Xining had applied for Xifu University.

His attitude was like a child who was afraid that the adults would go back on their word and not give him the candy.

Li Xining’s ears were almost callused by him, she felt helpless and amused. In the beginning, she kept telling herself to be patient and not to bother with fools.

“Don’t worry, it’s definitely Xifu University. I’d be a dog if I lied to you.”

However, Li Xining’s patience ran out by the third day.

“You annoying b*stard, if you ask me again, I’ll change my choice!” She finally exclaimed.

Lu Yuling was so anxious that he didn’t dare to ask any more questions. He kept it to himself for several days.

Finally, at 4:30 pm on July 7, with just half an hour left before the volunteer channel closed, he couldn’t hold back any longer and cautiously asked, “Li Xining, I’m asking you one last time, are you really going to apply to Xifu University?”

That day was a Sunday, and they had spent the whole day at the amusement park.

When he popped the question, Li Xining was enjoying her ice cream. She had a feeling this persistent guy would bring it up today, so she was a bit surprised he managed to wait until 4:30 in the afternoon. Instead of finding him annoying, she almost wanted to laugh. But she held it in and replied, “Do you really want to know?”

“Yes.”

Li Xining shot back without a hint of mercy, “Twenty bucks.”

Lu Yuling was taken aback, thinking, ‘Seriously? I’m so broke I can’t even buy a bun, and you’re still trying to squeeze me?’ But he didn’t dare push back. Gritting his teeth, he pulled out two ten-dollar bills but decided to negotiate instead of just handing them over. “Can’t you lower the price a bit?”

Li Xining: “No way!”

Lu Yuling switched to a more playful tone, “Come on, we’re good friends! I’m broke and I still bought you ice cream. You’re gonna treat me like this? That’s just mean.”

Li Xining paused to think. The ice cream at the amusement park was way pricier than anywhere else. This guy only had 200 yuan for the week, and he’d managed to save 100 yuan today by cutting back. He had no hesitation when he bought her ice cream earlier. “Alright, I’ll give you a 50% discount, so it’s 10 yuan.”

Lu Yuling quickly slapped the ten bucks down on the table and said, “It’s a deal.”

Li Xining suppressed a laugh, feeling a bit pleased with herself for making some money. “Yep, I applied for Xifu University, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Fashion Design and Engineering.”

Hearing those words, Lu Yuling was finally relieved, as he kept the heavy stone on his head on the ground. However, he decided to prank his girlfriend to take revenge.

“Do you know which university I applied to?” His voice was full of guilt.

Li Xining suddenly had a bad feeling. She stopped eating the ice cream and looked at her boyfriend with a frown. “Where did you apply?” This time, she had lost her confidence.

“Dongfu University… The music department of Dongfu University ranks first in the country. I… was afraid that you would feel bad, so I didn’t tell you. I’m sorry,” he said with a helpless look on her face.

His tone was very serious, and his expression was very earnest, not like he was joking at all. Li Xining was stunned and speechless for a long time. “Are you kidding me?”

Noticing that she was on the verge of tears, Lu Yuling decided to stop joking around and quickly reassured her. “I was just messing with you! I promise, I’ll apply to Xifu University!”

Li Xining’s eyes were red; she had been really scared and felt really hurt. But now, all that hurt turned into frustration. ‘This drama king! It seems like he couldn’t go a day without getting under my skin!’

She shot him a fierce look, stood up, and walked out without even finishing her ice cream.

Lu Yuling rushed after her, apologising as he went, “I’m sorry, I messed up; please forgive me!”

Li Xining didn’t respond. She just pushed the door of the dessert shop and stepped outside.

“Back off! Leave me alone!” she screamed as he tried to grab her hand.

Instead of backing off, he tightened his grip on her hand, making it impossible for her to break free. At the same time, he handed her another ten yuan, saying, “Here, I’ll cover my own fine!”

Li Xining stood there, glaring at him. She initially wanted to refuse the money with a haughty attitude, but then realised ten yuan was still something—it could buy a couple of bottles of water. She could be rude to him, but not to money. So, she took the ten yuan and muttered, “So annoying!”

Lu Yuling chuckled. “Are we good now?”

Li Xining shot back, “No!”

He frowned and complained. “You took my money, and you still won’t make up with me? You can’t just take the money and walk away.”

Li Xining replied, “Who said I have to be friends with you just because I took your money?”

Lu Yuling sighed before replying, “Uncle Li was right about you.”

‘Are you really using my dad to guilt-trip me again?’ Li Xining glared at him and questioned, “What did my dad say that time?”

“Uncle Li always said that beautiful girls are hard to coax. With your looks, like a flower and a fairy, it’s only natural for you to be a bit temperamental,” Lu Yuling said with a serious tone. ”

Hearing that, Li Xining couldn’t help but laugh in frustration. “So annoying!”

Lu Yuling quickly chimed in. “I know. It’s the worst!”

Li Xining chose to ignore him and turned away, saying, “Enough of this; let’s head home.”

It was five o’clock, so Lu Yuling didn’t argue and took Li Xining’s hand, walking closely beside her.

After a moment, Li Xining suddenly asked, “Lu Yuling, what would you do if I didn’t get into Xifu University?”

Without missing a beat, Lu Yuling replied, “I’d drop out, repeat the year, and follow you wherever you decide to go next year.”

Li Xining shot him a sideways glance. Even though she looked disgusted, she felt a strange tug at her heart.
