You hidden in my heart - Chapter 54.3

Chapter 54.3
When she returned with the thermometer, Lu Yuling had his eyes shut tight, with his brows knitted together. It was clear that he was sick.
Seeing him like that made her heart ache, so her voice softened without her even realising it. She leaned in close and murmured, “You should check your temperature before sleeping.”
Lu Yuling didn’t budge, still keeping his eyes closed, and replied with determination, “No!”
Li Xining figured he was still upset with her, but there wasn’t much she could do since he was the one feeling unwell. She tried to sweet-talk him a bit. “Okay, I messed up. I’m sorry! I was just joking around.”
But Lu Yuling continued to ignore her.
Suddenly, Li Xining felt like she was digging her own grave. Seriously, why did she provoke the moody little princess? She pressed on, “Shen Siqi isn’t as good-looking as you. Not even close! You’re the most handsome guy out there. Out of ten guys on the street, nine don’t hold a candle to you!”
Finally, Lu Yuling responded, “What about the last one?”
Caught off guard, Li Xining quickly replied, “The last one is you!” She thought she was pretty quick on her feet, but if Lu Yuling were that easy to appease, he wouldn’t be such a little diva.
As soon as she finished, the little princess scoffed, pulled the blanket over his head, and shot back, “Liar.”
Li Xining panicked and said hurriedly, “Why do I need to lie? I’m not lying!” She tugged at his blanket, negotiating like a kid. “Come on, let’s make up, and I’ll give you a kiss!”
Taking advantage of him being under the weather, Lu Yuling got a bit cocky. “Kiss me first, and then I might think about forgiving you.”
Li Xining leaned in and planted a kiss on his cheek, then shook his shoulders, urging. “Come on! Let’s make up!”
Lu Yuling kept his eyes shut and insisted. “One kiss isn’t enough.”
Suppressing her laughter, Li Xining kissed him on the cheek a few more times, asking, “Is that enough?”
In the end, she finally kissed Lu Yuling, which made him smile, but he still acted all high and mighty, saying, “That’s enough, just barely.”
“Tsk.” Li Xining gave him a playful pat on the shoulder, with a mix of annoyance and affection. “Come on, let’s take your temperature!”
Lu Yuling stayed put and asked again, “Who’s more handsome, me or Shen Siqi?”
“You! You! You!” Li Xining quickly replied, “You’re the most handsome!”
That seemed to please Lu Yuling, and he finally sat up from the bed.
Li Xining let out a tired sigh, pulled out the thermometer from the box, checked it against the light, and shook it a bit. She handed it to Lu Yuling, saying, “Hurry up and measure it.”
Lu Yuling tucked the thermometer under his arm, and Li Xining seized the moment to grab the leftover porridge from the table and started feeding him again.
They had been bickering all day, so Lu Yuling decided not to continue it. He lifted the hand that wasn’t holding the thermometer and said, “You go eat. I got this.”
Li Xining smacked his hand and said, “Come on, behave!”
Lu Yuling quickly pulled back his hand, giving her a sad look, and played the princess card again. “You hit me? You really hit me?”
“You’re just being dramatic,” Li Xining said, rolling her eyes. She scooped up a spoonful of porridge and gave it to him. “Eat up.”
Lu Yuling let her feed him, but this time he gobbled it down much quicker. By the time they checked his temperature, the bowl was already empty. Then he urged her, “Come on, hurry and eat!”
Li Xining glanced at the clock on the wall, set aside the empty bowl, and got up from the bed. “Just relax; I’ll grab you some medicine, and then you can sleep after taking it. If your fever doesn’t go down by tomorrow morning, we’ll head to the hospital.” With that, she took the bowl and walked out.
Lu Yuling watched her leave, and a smile crept onto his face as he felt a swell of pride. He thought to himself how lucky he was to have such a wonderful young wife.
When Li Xining returned with the water and medicine, Lu Yuling was already checking the thermometer under the light. She placed the cup and medicine on the table and asked, “How much is it?”
“Not too bad, just a bit over thirty-seven degrees,” he replied nonchalantly. But as he was about to toss the thermometer aside, Li Xining quickly grabbed his wrist and snatched it back. Looking closely, she saw it was actually thirty-eight point two degrees.
She shot him a fierce glare.
Lu Yuling acted all confused and looked at Li Xining with big eyes. “Is it time for my medicine?”
Li Xining was fuming. “Lu Yuling, my nephew, is only three! And he knows he needs to use an umbrella when it rains. How old are you? Why don’t you get that?”
Lu Yuling clutched the hem of Li Xining’s shirt and started to whine. “Come on, how many times have you said that? I’m sick and weak right now. You have to be patient with me.”
Li Xining rolled her eyes and muttered, “You’re such a pain!” Then she grabbed the cup and the pillbox from the table and handed them to Lu Yuling, saying, “Take your medicine.”
Lu Yuling quickly took the pills, downed them in one go, and then sipped some water to wash it down, looking at Li Xining with a hopeful expression that seemed to say, Give me some praise.
‘Hehe… He looks so childlike.’ Li Xining wanted to laugh but kept a serious face, telling him, “Finish your water.”
Lu Yuling immediately gulped down the rest of the water.
Li Xining nodded in approval. “That’s better.” Then she took the empty cup and instructed, “Get to bed now.”
But Lu Yuling didn’t lie down. He glanced at the clock and saw it was already half past nine. He quickly tossed off the blanket and got out of bed. “I’ll take you home.”
Li Xining put a hand on his shoulder and replied, “No need.” After a brief pause, she added softly, “No one’s home today.”
Which basically meant she didn’t have to go back.
Lu Yuling stood frozen, staring blankly at Li Xining. He was already feeling dizzy, with a pounding head and dry lips, and now the dizziness was hitting him even harder.
The mood in the room got a bit awkward all of a sudden.
Li Xining quickly chimed in, “I’ll take the sofa tonight!”
There was another room available, but it used to belong to his mother, and he definitely wasn’t going to give it to her.
Lu Yuling took a deep breath. His throat was tightening as he looked away and replied in a raspy voice, “Oh.”
Li Xining turned to leave, and before stepping out of the bedroom, she kindly switched off the light. As she closed the door, she softly said, “Good night.”
Lu Yuling responded flatly, “Good night.”
Have a nice day!
