You hidden in my heart - Chapter 54.4

Chapter 54.4
he door clicked shut, and the bedroom was completely swallowed by darkness.
Lu Yuling rolled on the bed for sometime, but he was still awake.
Lu Yuling gritted his teeth and flopped onto the bed, but sleep just wouldn’t come. He tossed and turned, feeling restless and anxious. He started off feeling chilly, but now he was burning up from within. Known for his short fuse, it felt like he was being roasted alive. His throat was dry, and sweat was dripping off him.
He wasn’t sure if he had been running a fever earlier, but now it was undeniable—like the kind you get after a wild night out, a fierce heat.
Meanwhile, after Li Xining left the bedroom, she went to the kitchen to wash the dishes and heat up her bowl of porridge. When she returned to the living room with her meal, she noticed the disposable lunch box on the dining table.
He had brought her squid in the pouring rain, but she hadn’t touched it yet.
Not really feeling hungry, she still grabbed the food box, went back to the kitchen, and warmed up the squid. Afterwards, she sat alone in the living room, enjoying the squid with some white porridge. Even though the skewers of squid had lost their freshness, the flavor of the oil lingered, and she felt like it was the best squid she had ever had.
After finishing her meal and cleaning up the dishes, she noticed it was already past ten. As she glanced at her watch, all the exhaustion hit her at once. She had been on the go from morning until night and was completely worn out. She took the toiletries she had just bought into the bathroom, freshened up, and by the time she was ready for bed, it was already half past ten.
There was a gray pillow on the couch that could be used as a cushion and a blanket. She picked it up a few days ago while shopping with Xu Dongruo. She got two pillows, one pink and one gray. The pink one was for her, and she gave the gray one to Lu Yuling.
After switching off the lights and settling onto the sofa, Li Xining took the gray pillow and fluffed it up into a blanket. She grabbed another pillow to rest her head on, wrapped herself in the blanket, and shut her eyes. But less than thirty seconds later, she popped them open again. Quickly, she grabbed her phone and set the alarm for 23.59 p.m.
Tomorrow was Lu Yuling’s birthday.
Because of her busy days, she almost forgot Lu Yuling’s birthday, and luckily she remembered it at the last moment.
It was her first birthday with him, so she needed to be extra cautious and not as spaced out as she had been in the past. After setting the alarm, Li Xining shut her eyes and dozed off right away. But after over an hour, the alarm blared, jolting her from her dream. She was still a bit anxious about waking Lu Yuling, so she quickly snatched her phone and silenced the alarm.
Li Xining let out a deep breath and sank into the sofa to unwind for a bit. Sleepiness had vanished, and she felt wide awake, like she had just rolled out of bed in the morning. She checked her phone again and saw it was already 00:01 on July 13th.
She lifted the blanket and carefully placed her feet on the floor. Once she managed to wear the slippers, she got up from the sofa and made her way slowly to Lu Yuling’s bedroom.
As she opened the door, she noticed it was dark inside too. Lu Yuling was still lying on his side, facing away from her, looking like he was in a deep sleep.
Not wanting to disturb him, Li Xining tiptoed over there, and gently touched his forehead. It felt cool, and it was a sign that the fever had finally gone down.
She let out a sigh of relief.
At first, she had been worried that the fever would get worse at night, and she would have to go to the hospital. Now that everything was fine, she didn’t have to worry anymore.
She leaned down, gave him a soft kiss on the cheek, and whispered, “Happy birthday.” Feeling like just two words were a bit dull, she grinned and added, “My little princess.”
There were so many things she wanted to express, but some felt too awkward to say while he was awake. Now that he was peacefully sleeping, she figured she could let it all out. After a brief pause, Li Xining quietly added, “I hope you become a superstar soon and marry me.”
Saying that made her blush. Her cheeks felt warm, and she thought it was a bit silly to wish a birthday to someone who was completely unaware in the middle of the night.
But thankfully, he couldn’t hear her; otherwise, she would’ve been super embarrassed to say those things to him. After finishing her birthday wishes, she was about to get up when, out of nowhere, Lu Yuling suddenly opened his eyes.
Have a nice day!
