You hidden in my heart - Chapter 55.4

Chapter 55.4
Li Xining stepped into the room after getting the go-ahead. The first thing that grabbed her attention was a wooden photo frame sitting on the bedside table to her left. Behind the clear glass, there was a stunning photo of a woman.
She was stunning, with jet-black hair, perfectly shaped eyebrows, and porcelain skin. Her dark, sparkling eyes seemed to hold the universe, and her full, red lips were the perfect finishing touch to her beauty.
In the picture, the woman wore a strapless white fishtail gown that hugged her figure perfectly. Holding a bouquet of flowers, she stood on a stage bathed in light, radiating an aura that rivalled any famous actress.
The thought that popped into Li Xining’s head was that she completely outshone all the other beauties. She was truly in a league of her own. “Is this your mom?” She asked, momentarily taken aback by the photo.
“Yes.” Lu Yuling replied, “She took the photo when she participated in the school’s art competition.”
‘Beauty lies in the bones, not in the skin. The eldest lady is so beautiful.’ Li Xining sincerely praised Lu Yuling’s mother. “She’s so beautiful.”
Lu Yuling replied with a bit of pride, “My mother, of course, she is beautiful.”
As Li Xining gazed at the stunning photo, a wave of sadness washed over her.
‘Such a gorgeous woman deserved to be treasured, so why did her life turn out so tragic?
Beauty doesn’t last forever…
Zhao Hailan had completely ruined the eldest lady’s life.’
With a heavy heart, Li Xining pushed aside her sorrow and turned away from the picture. The more she stared, the more uneasy she felt.
Meanwhile, Lu Yuling had already opened the cupboard and was rummaging for bed sheets.
Curious, Li Xining leaned in to see that the cabinets were packed with bedding—everything from quilt cores to pillowcases, all neatly arranged and smelling fresh from the laundry.
Li Xining was initially taken aback, thinking Princess Lu was incredibly virtuous, but then she felt a bit sorry for him. He didn’t want to live under someone else’s roof and couldn’t stand the disapproving looks from his grandparents, so he decided to move out and live on his own. If he had parents, he wouldn’t have had to grow up so fast and learn to fend for himself.
Feeling heartbroken about her boyfriend, Li Xining wrapped her arms around his waist, wanting to be his support.
Lu Yuling pulled out a dark blue bed sheet from the cupboard.
Li Xining noticed a brown and grey sheet stacked on top of it, along with a quilt cover and pillowcase in matching colours. Everything was in dark shades, which she wasn’t a fan of.
Women’s tastes in aesthetics often differ from men’s. While guys tend to prefer darker, more mature colours, women usually lean towards brighter and more vibrant shades.
“How about we hit the supermarket tomorrow?” Li Xining suggested after pondering for a moment.
Lu Yuling asked, “What do you need to buy?”
Li Xining replied, “Your stuff is too dull—like the bed sheets, quilt covers, and pillowcases.”
Without missing a beat, Lu Yuling said, “Alright, you call the shots.”
Li Xining released her hold around Lu Yuling’s waist as she closed the cabinet door.
Just as they were about to leave the room, Li Xining suddenly tugged at the hem of Lu Yuling’s shirt.
Lu Yuling turned around and asked, “What’s up?”
Feeling a bit shy, Li Xining admitted. “I’m feeling hungry.”
Lu Yuling grinned and said, “I’ll whip something up right now.”
Li Xining grabbed the bed sheet and said, “Then I’ll take care of making the bed.”
By the time she finished making the bed, Lu Yuling was still busy in the kitchen.
While he was busy cooking noodles, Li Xining snuck up behind him, wrapped her arms around his waist, and rested her cheek against his back.
He teased, “I knew you couldn’t resist me.” He was feeling pretty pleased with himself.
Li Xining rolled her eyes at his smugness and shot back, “I’m just making sure you’re doing your job. Otherwise, I’d be keeping my distance.”
Lu Yuling smirked and replied, “That’s not what you were saying when we were practically glued together a moment ago.”
Li Xining felt her cheeks heat up again and gave Lu Yuling a playful smack on the back. “You’re so infuriating!”
“Ouch! That hurt!” Lu Yuling feigned innocence, “Could you be a little gentler?”
‘You really have the guts to ask me to be gentle?’ Li Xining exclaimed, clearly frustrated. “Earlier I told you to be gentle, and what did you do at that time?”
Lu Yuling replied, “That’s not the same.”
Li Xining shot back, “How is it not the same?”
Lu Yuling insisted, “I’m genuinely hurt now; you say one thing but mean another.”
“Ugh! You’re so infuriating!” Li Xining fumed, feeling like his words were getting more and more ridiculous. “You have no shame.”
Lu Yuling just smirked and said, “Shameless? Sure, but I’m still your guy.”
Li Xining chose to ignore him.
After dinner, she took a quick shower and then headed to the bedroom. Glancing at the clock, she realised it was already 4 AM. She hurried into bed, ready to sleep.
Lu Yuling was quicker in the shower, finishing in just ten minutes. When he came back, he climbed into bed and wrapped his arms around her.
Li Xining was jolted awake by him. He blinked, glanced at him, and then quickly shut his eyes again.
Lu Yuling raised an eyebrow, teasing, “Are you pretending to be asleep?”
Li Xining stayed completely still, as quiet as a mouse.
Lu Yuling rolled over, pulled out another condom from under the pillow, and cheekily said, “No more sleeping; it’s almost morning. You can sleep after that.”
Li Xining was fuming but kept his eyes squeezed shut, lying there like a log.
Lu Yuling watched him for a moment, almost like he was admiring his catch, then leaned in and whispered in a playful yet sinister tone, “The window’s open, so keep it down; the neighbours might hear.”
Li Xining shot his eyes open in anger.
Lu Yuling put it on and sweetly coaxed, “Come on, just this once.” Then he added seriously, “Just this last time before bed.”
Li Xining clenched his teeth and muttered, “…You jerk!”
