Chapter 56.1

When Li Xining opened her eyes the next day, she felt groggy and achy all over her body.

The curtains were drawn tight, the bedroom door was shut, and the room was dimly lit. The air conditioner hummed softly, keeping the temperature just right—not too hot, not too cold. 

She shut her eyes again and dozed off for a bit until it hit her where she was and who she was. 

Her gaze landed on the clock hanging on the wall across from the bed. ‘Shit, it is already two in the afternoon.’

Last night, everything happened suddenly, and she was experiencing another side of life. 

The fight continued till morning, and she was so exhausted that she fell asleep almost immediately after closing her eyes.

After checking the time, Li Xining looked at the other side of the bed and noticed the bed was empty—Lu Yuling had already gotten up. 

She stayed in bed for a bit before finally getting up. She had washed her clothes last night, so she had nothing else to wear. After going through her boyfriend’s cupboard, she finally slipped on one of Lu Yuling’s oversized T-shirts, which barely covered her thighs. 

Once dressed, she made the bed and turned off the air conditioner before stepping out of the bedroom. 

As she entered the living room, a good smell of food wafted through the air. 

She recognised the aroma—it was braised prawns!

Hunger kicked inside her stomach instantly, but she did not go to the kitchen immediately. Instead, she went to the balcony to get her underwear.

At that time Lu Yuling had already washed the sheets and was hanging them on the balcony to dry. 

Li Xining touched her underwear hanging on the clothes rack. Fortunately, it was hot outside, and the clothes had dried quickly. She immediately took off her underwear and put it on quickly after going to the room. Then she returned to the kitchen.

The kitchen door was wide open. As Li Xining approached, she spotted Lu Yuling chopping up some veggies. 

Lu Yuling heard her footsteps, turned around, and said gently, “Just give me another fifteen minutes, and we can eat.” 

Princess Lu was being pretty nice, but Li Xining couldn’t help but feel a surge of anger and shot him a glare, exclaiming, “Beast!” After saying that, she hurried to the bathroom. 

Once in there, all she could feel was pain. After freshening up, she headed back to the living room, feeling a bit aimless, so she wandered into the kitchen again. This time, instead of lingering at the door, she walked right in and wrapped her arms around Lu Yuling’s waist from behind. “You really hurt me,” she whined, leaning on his back.

Lu Yuling realised that he had been a bit too much the night before, and his voice was filled with guilt as he asked, “Does it hurt a lot?” 

Li Xining shot back, “What do you think?” Then, with a hint of playful revenge, she added, “If we could swap souls like in the movies, I’d make sure you couldn’t get out of bed.” 

Lu Yuling chuckled at her response. “You’re quite the dreamer.” 

Li Xining scoffed, “Dreamer? I’m just giving you a taste of your own medicine. If I really had that ambition, I’d do way more than just keep you in bed!” 

Her words almost felt like they could actually swap souls.

Lu Yuling decided to go along with his girlfriend. “Alright, how are you planning to treat me? I want to be ready for it.” 

Li Xining suddenly puffed her cheeks with confidence, acting like a boss, and replied with a cheeky grin, “I’ll make you cry and call me daddy every night!” 

Lu Yuling nearly burst out laughing but kept it under control. “What else besides calling you daddy?” 

Li Xining shot back, “Isn’t that enough? Do you even know what that means?” 

Lu Yuling grinned and asked, “What does it mean?” 

Li Xining declared. “It means you’re totally under my control! I’ll have my way with you every night!” 

Lu Yuling: “Calling you daddy is considered having your way? Do you want to swap bodies with me just for that? I could call you daddy right now without any body swap!” 

Li Xining realised Lu Yuling had a point, so she expanded on her fantasy with confidence. “Calling you daddy is just the start. Soon, I’ll be a superstar, and you’ll be in the audience, watching me with admiration. Then, when our relationship gets out, I’ll pretend to date someone else to protect you. You’ll think I really fell for them and break up with me. I’ll act all hurt and won’t comfort you, waiting for you to come back to me. But when you don’t, I’ll get mad. One day, I’ll see you out with another one, and jealousy will hit me hard. I’ll kidnap you, bring you home, and make you call me daddy!”

She felt really good about her idea and confidently asked, “So, is it really enough to just push your body and mind to the limit?!”

Lu Yuling paused for a moment, then replied earnestly, “Please, Li Xining, can you promise to read fewer novels about those overbearing CEOs falling in love in the future?”

“Absolutely not!” Li Xining shot back. Those dramatic romance novels were her happy place, and she wasn’t about to give them up. “What do you know? You don’t understand anything!”

“Alright, maybe I don’t get it, but your storyline just doesn’t make sense,” he said with a sigh.

Li Xining wasn’t convinced. “What doesn’t make sense? Seriously, tell me!”

Lu Yuling explained, “It’s been unreasonable from the start. I wouldn’t just fall for someone else to keep you safe.”

Li Xining tilted her head, looking at him, and asked, “So what’s your plan? Are you going to deny the relationship?”

Without missing a beat, Lu Yuling said, “No, never!”

Li Xining smirked but added, “Aren’t you worried about your popularity taking a hit?”

Lu Yuling replied, “Look, I want to be a talented singer, not just a famous one. Why should I stress about my popularity dropping?”

Li Xining: “But fame and attention can come so quickly, you know?”

Lu Yuling responded seriously, “No matter how fast you get famous, you need real talent to keep going. Otherwise, it’s just a short-lived moment. It’s better to focus on building a solid foundation from the start and let your skills do the talking.”

He had a big dream and wanted to chase it, but he knew not to aim too high and keep his feet on the ground. Moreover, he got a solid understanding of his chances for fame and whether he could truly achieve his goals. He wanted to be a superstar because he loved music, not just to chase the fame that came with it. So, he wanted to focus on sharpening his skills instead of getting caught up in trends.

And no matter what happened in the future, he couldn’t let down the girl he loved.

When Li Xining heard this, she couldn’t help giving him a big hug. “You’re definitely going to be a superstar!” 

“What if I can’t make it?” 

Li Xining replied with confidence, “There’s no way you can’t!” 

Lu Yuling raised an eyebrow and asked seriously, “You really believe in me that much?” 

“Absolutely! I’ll be right by your side, watching you reach the top!” 

At that moment, Lu Yuling felt a rush of emotions, and his eyes started to well up. For the first time, he truly understood the power of a woman’s belief.
