You hidden in my heart - Chapter 56.3

Chapter 56.3
It was already past three in the afternoon when the two finished eating their lunch.
Li Xining was feeling a bit drowsy, but she still took Lu Yuling to the supermarket.
Once they got there, Li Xining planned to head straight to the household goods section for some bed sheets.
However, Lu Yuling had other ideas and headed for the shelves stocked with family planning items.
Li Xining’s face turned bright red from embarrassment. She was worried about running into someone she knew, so she decided to keep her distance and stood far away in the middle of the aisle.
There were product displays every few meters, and she pretended to check one of them.
When Lu Yuling approached her with a shopping cart, Li Xining sneaked a peek inside and then exploded, glaring at Lu Yuling with a flushed face. “Why did you get so much?” she whispered.
Lu Yuling: “These are consumables; they run out fast, so we need to stock up.”
“Run out fast? If you controlled yourself, you wouldn’t need so much!” Li Xining shot back, fuming.
Lu Yuling replied, “But can I really hold back? Aren’t you worried about my health?”
Li Xining was frustrated. “How did you manage before?”
Lu Yuling answered seriously, “Things are different now. I didn’t have a wife before, but now I do.”
Li Xining’s face turned even redder. “Who’s your wife? How embarrassing!”
Ignoring her, Lu Yuling pushed the cart with one hand and grabbed her hand with the other. “Come on, let’s pick up some other stuff.”
Li Xining pulled her hand away and snapped at Lu Yuling, “Get your cart moving and work harder, or I’ll cut your pay!”
Lu Yuling stood there, with both hands on the shopping cart. “Listen, you better figure things out.” He then took another look at the cart.
Feeling the pressure, Li Xining decided to give in and quickly said, “Alright, let’s go.”
Lu Yuling grinned, clearly pleased with himself. “Now that’s very good!”
Li Xining frowned a bit, not too happy about it.
Then Lu Yuling started pushing the cart toward the laundry section, and Li Xining followed, asking, “What are you picking up?”
“Toothbrush, towel, cup,” Lu Yuling replied.
“Don’t you have any at home?” Li Xining asked.
“Nope, no pairs,” Lu Yuling said.
Li Xining chuckled and replied, “Do you really need the couple’s set for me? You’re quite the romantic.”
Lu Yuling nodded seriously and said, “Yep because we’re a couple.”
Li Xining felt a little warm inside her heart. Just then, Lu Yuling asked, “Is anyone home at your place tonight?”
Caught off guard, Li Xining answered, “Nope, my mom’s away on a business trip, and my grandparents are visiting my aunt. It’s been empty for half a month.”
Lu Yuling responded with a knowing “Oh.”
After picking out some toiletries, the two of them headed over to the household items section and made their selections with care.
Li Xining found two four-piece bedding sets that caught her eye—one had a pink base with blue flowers, and the other featured a pink base with white flowers.
Lu Yuling wasn’t a fan of either set.
Knowing Lu Yuling’s preference, Li Xining still playfully asked for Lu Yuling’s opinion. “What do you think of these two sets?”
Honestly, neither set was appealing to him, but he didn’t want to hurt Li Xining’s feelings. After a moment of thought, he pointed to a dark blue graffiti-patterned set nearby and said, “I think this one looks nice.”
Li Xining rolled her eyes and tossed the two sets she liked into the shopping cart. “From now on, you’re stuck using what I buy. If not, don’t even think about getting me into your bed.”
Lu Yuling was taken aback. After a brief pause, he cautiously asked, “Will you live with me forever?”
Li Xining shot back, “You wish!”
Lu Yuling replied, “Look, you’re not at home, and I’m a grown man. Pink sheets? Do you think that’s appropriate?”
Li Xining stood her ground. “I don’t care; you’re using what I picked out.”
Lu Yuling didn’t argue: “…Okay.”
It wasn’t until they were at the checkout that he realised what was happening. ‘So she is marking her territory and claiming her space.’ He grinned and asked Li Xining, “Are you worried I’ll bring another girl home?”
Li Xining’s face flushed when her little secret was revealed. She didn’t say yes or no, but her silence spoke the words aloud.
Lu Yuling reassured her earnestly. “Don’t worry, I won’t bring anyone else home but you.”
Li Xining shot him a quick look and said, “You know this already.”
As they were checking out, Li Xining headed to the other side of the counter first. The cashier was busy scanning items while she packed the groceries into a bag.
Eventually, Lu Yuling settled the bill.
After paying, he raised his phone to show Li Xining the receipt, a hint of excitement in his voice. “The total comes to four hundred sixty-eight.”
That left thirty-two dollars from their five hundred dollar shopping budget.
Li Xining felt a laugh bubbling up but quickly suppressed it, not wanting to show him that she was pleased by that. Instead, she thoughtfully agreed with Princess Lu’s expectations. You can keep the leftover money.”
Lu Yuling fought the urge to smile and kept his composure. “Alright, sounds good.”
As they walked toward the supermarket exit with their bags, Lu Yuling felt pretty happy about getting an extra thirty-two yuan from his wife. But then, out of nowhere, a wave of gloom hit him—how had he gone from being a carefree spender to feeling like a fool over just thirty-two bucks?
