Chapter 59.3

The next morning, when the alarm clock rang at seven, Li Xining opened her eyes. She was the only one in the bed at that time. 

Stretching out, she sat up in bed and got out of bed. She made the bed first and then opened the window to let in some fresh air.

As soon as the curtains were drawn back, the bright morning sun poured into the room; the moment the glass windows were opened, fresh air rushed in through the gauze screens.

Li Xining suddenly felt refreshed, and in a daze, she even thought she had been living here forever.

‘This is my and Lu Yuling’s home.’

As soon as she opened the bedroom door, the delicious aroma of food hit her. ‘This annoying guy is actually pretty good at this!’

She went to the bathroom first, washed up, and then hurried to the kitchen. 

Lu Yuling was busy frying something. 

On the counter next to the stove was a white plate piled with a few freshly fried egg pancakes. They were golden and crispy, making her mouth water at first sight.

She walked up behind him again and hugged him.

Lu Yuling had heard her footsteps long before, but he didn’t turn around purposely. “Can’t bear to leave me?”

Li Xining was annoyed by that. “Hmph! I didn’t.”

“Then why are you hugging me so early in the morning?” Lu Yuling asked while flipping a pancake.

Li Xining suddenly felt a mischievous urge, so she playfully said, “I just can’t stand being away from your waist.” While this statement wasn’t entirely genuine, it wasn’t a complete fabrication either.

He had a powerful waist, defined abs, and those mermaid lines, plus his body proportions were spot on. His physical fitness was impressive too, all thanks to his dedication and commitment to working out. 

During summer break, Li Xining spent over a week at his place, and that’s when she discovered that he would head to the nearby park daily to either shoot hoops or jog with friends. If there were a show at Green Field in the evening, he’d work out in the morning; if not, he’d hit the gym later in the day.

Having strong lungs and good stamina was crucial for a singer. 

After all, if you run out of breath after just two songs, how can you keep performing?

One day, Li Xining decided to go for a run with Lu Yuling, but she couldn’t keep up with him. She lagged, and when he playfully slapped her on the backside, it startled her so much that she almost screamed. 

Then, out of nowhere, Lu Yuling appeared beside her, turned around, and flashed a cheeky grin mixed with mischief and pride. “Come on! If you can’t catch up with me again, I’ll give you a beating!”

“So annoying!” Li Xining was so mad her teeth were itching. She really wanted to chase him down and give him a piece of her mind, but there was no way she could. His legs were too long, and she just couldn’t keep up. All she could do was walk faster to avoid being overtaken again. As she walked, she kept glancing back, wary of Lu Yuling, the big bad wolf.

He could run at least 10 kilometres each time, while she could only manage 5 kilometres at most at the same time. Maybe it was because of those extra 5 kilometres she walked every day that she didn’t gain any weight, even after indulging at his place for over a week. 

In his final year at high school, he barely had any time to run aside from the regular exercise sessions mandated by the school. But he would do hundreds of sit-ups every night before hitting the sack. Still, that amount of exercise was just enough to keep his body in check. After taking the college entrance exam, he finally had time to play ball and run, so his exercise routine naturally improved. Plus, he had to look after his girlfriend which helped him shed some pounds.

On top of that, he had a physique that let him eat as much as he wanted without ever gaining weight. This was what made Li Xining the most envious and jealous.

After hearing Li Xining’s comments, Lu Yuling sighed. “I knew it, you still love my body.”

Li Xining responded with a disgruntled “Huh! Narcissism!”

Lu Yuling asked, “So tell me, what do you like about me?”

“I’ve mentioned it countless times. I like you because you’re foolish and wealthy. Wait, you don’t have any money now, so you’re just foolish.” At this point, Li Xining let out a deliberate sigh, “Alas, maybe I really do like you for your foolishness.”

Lu Yuling found that hilarious.

Li Xining lifted her chin, gazed at the back of his head, and said, “Lu Yuling, you know, you are nothing like my ideal boyfriend. My ideal boyfriend is a mountain flower, someone who never smiles, and a top student who can give me extra lessons and help me with my studies.

She was being honest. Every teenage girl had her own perfect dream partner. Her ideal dream partner was like a flower from Gaoling – both cool and gentle, stunning and smart. The reason she loved watching the show “My Youth Is You” so much was that the male lead’s character perfectly matched her dream partner’s criteria.

Upon hearing that, Lu Yuling scoffed and replied with arrogance, “Let me tell you, Li Xining. It’s too late for you to say anything now; you are already my wife.”

Li Xining smiled and added, “But that was before I fell for you. Now, you are my favourite. Gaoling Zhihua is way too serious and dull. You are way more fun than Gaoling Zhihua. You treat me well and make me laugh. You are the best, the best Lu Yuling in the world.”

It was yet another unexpected confession. 

Lu Yuling’s heart raced again, and he felt a sudden spark. ‘Damn it! Why do you always flirt with me before giving me any heads up? Isn’t this going to drive me crazy?’ Taking a deep breath, Lu Yuling asked, “Li Xining, are you really leaving today?”

Li Xining replied, “Yeah, I have to go home.”

“Then just be straightforward and stop teasing me!”

‘I finally wanted to be romantic, but this person wouldn’t play along.’ Li Xining sighed with a touch of regret. “Oh, fine.”
