Once she hung up the phone, Zhao Hailan sent her 10,000 yuan.

Li Xining felt both angry and surprised, thinking Zhao Hailan was trying to bribe her. She sent a voice message. [Uncle, I can’t accept this money. I don’t need this small amount. This isn’t about money!]

There was already a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Zhao Hailan quickly sent her a voice message. [I’m sorry Xining, I didn’t mean that. This is for you two to enjoy Christmas together.]

Li Xining still refused the money and didn’t respond to Zhao Hailan.

The transfer would be sent back in 24 hours automatically, so she didn’t think about it anymore.

After that, Li Xining kept debating whether to let Lu Yuling join the competition. Soon after, Lu Yuling returned with fried chicken, and the waiter started bringing out the ordered dishes one by one.

Li Xining ate without focus. She barely touched her food or the fried chicken.

When Lu Yuling noticed her like this, he realised she was lost in thought again.

With a sigh, he set down his chopsticks and asked directly, “What’s on your mind? Spill it, I’ll help you figure it out.”

Li Xining snapped back to reality and frowned in annoyance.

“How could you look down on me like that?” Lu Yuling raised an eyebrow. “Friday is just around the corner. You should be nicer to me.”

Li Xining’s cheeks flushed as she shot him a glare. “You’re so irritating!”

Lu Yuling stopped teasing her and gently asked, “What’s wrong? Just tell me, don’t try to figure it out alone.”

Li Xining found herself torn again. Her feelings were swaying back and forth. On one side, she respected his decisions, but on the other, she had her own selfish desires. Finally, she asked him cautiously, “Have you really never thought about joining that talent show?”

Lu Yuling understood Li Xining’s thoughts. “You want me to participate?”

Li Xining stayed quiet for a while but ultimately decided to be honest. “I want to see you make your debut. I…I won’t be around in my junior year.”

Lu Yuling was taken aback. He hadn’t anticipated her to feel this way.

Truthfully, he hadn’t considered joining the show “Sounds into Ears”, let alone debuting early, but for her, he was willing to change his mind.

It could say that if she wanted him to do something, he’d jump at the chance without a second thought.

Then he took her hand and said firmly, “I’ll sign up this afternoon.”

Li Xining was both surprised and moved. “You’re not going to think it over again?”

Lu Yuling grinned and said, “What’s there to think about? It’s just a show.”

Li Xining asked, “Don’t you want to debut in your junior year?”

Lu Yuling replied, “It doesn’t matter if I compete, but I will definitely debut.”

Li Xining nodded firmly, without a hint of doubt. “You can do it!”

Lu Yuling instinctively grasped his girl’s hand and said earnestly, “Li Xining, you believe in me more than I believe in myself.”

Li Xining quickly replied, “You belong to me, so I have to believe in you.”

Lu Yuling paused before responding. He tenderly caressed the back of her hand with his thumb. After a moment, he spoke slowly, “Don’t worry, I promise I won’t let you down.”

That afternoon, he signed up for the competition.

Later that night, Li Xining got another text from Zhao Hailan. [Thank you.]

Even though it was just a few words, they filled Li Xining with guilt. She felt incredibly selfish as if she was manipulating Zhao Hailan’s control over Lu Yuling’s life, deceiving Lu Yuling, and exploiting his love for her.

She felt she was letting Lu Yuling down.
