Chapter 63.2

They headed out after breakfast. 

Lu Yuling was really sharp and capable. Without any instruction, he took all the sacrificial supplies on his own. Normally, Li Xining and her mom would handle all of that.

 The garage at their place can fit two cars side by side. Usually, only Yu Wenyin’s car was parked there, so Li Xining told Lu Yuling to park his car in the garage when they arrived. 

  After helping Lu Yuling load the trunk, Li Xining walked over to her usual spot in the co-pilot seat. Seeing this, Yu Wenyin yelled at her in frustration, “Where do you think you’re going?”

  Li Xining, who had already opened the car door, quickly shut it again. With a red face, she went back to her mother’s car. Once inside, she still felt a bit anxious and whispered, “He won’t get lost, will he?”

  “If you sit in it, he won’t get lost? Do you even know the way?”

  The Queen Mother was upset, and Li Xining didn’t dare to say anything.

  Xishan Cemetery was located in the northwest part of Xifu City. Technically, it was outside the city limits, but that area still came under Xifu City’s jurisdiction.

  Today wasn’t a typical sacrificial festival, so there weren’t many people on the mountain and even fewer cars in the parking lot.

  Before parking the car at the cemetery, Yu Wenyin turned around to back the car into the space for an easier exit later. But as she was reversing, a puppy suddenly dashed out from nowhere and ran right past her rear wheel. Yu Wenyin was so startled that she yelled “Ouch” and hit the brakes hard.

Everyone in the were shocked. 

“What happened?”

　Yu Wenyin couldn’t understand how that happened. “I have no idea where this dog came from.” 

Suddenly, a loud shout erupted from behind the car. “How are you driving?!”

Upon hearing that, Yu Wenyin frowned in annoyance. She quickly unfastened her seatbelt and stepped out of the vehicle.

Li Xining hurriedly exited the car alongside her mother.

There stood a burly middle-aged man in front of an X-series BMW car. He had small eyes and a flushed face. Moreover, he was wearing a large gold chain hanging around his neck. Beside him was a young woman who appeared to be about 20 years his junior. She had long, curly golden hair, and heavy makeup, and was dressed in a mink coat, tight black leather pants, and high-heeled boots. Although she wore a designer outfit, she somehow managed to make it look cheap.

The woman clutched a yellow teddy bear in her arms.

At first glance, they resembled a nouveau riche guy and his little bird.

The nouveau riche believed that the red Audi was a luxury vehicle and that the driver was someone he shouldn’t mess with. However, he felt compelled to unleash his frustration for his little bird. He thought he would just shout a bit for effect, but to his surprise, the driver turned out to be a woman with a young girl. When the window rolled down, he noticed two elderly people inside. It was clear to him that the man of the family had passed away, and the widow and orphan had come to pay their respects.

‘The pillar of the family has collapsed; how powerful can a woman be?’ The nouveau riche’s arrogance instantly became much more arrogant. He cursed while staring at Yu Wenyin fiercely. “Fuck! How can a woman drive a car?”

Just as the man cursed, a tall young guy jumped out of the white Audi parked next to the red one. He shot him a fierce glare and shouted even louder and angrier. “Who the hell are you?!”

The rich guy’s bravado instantly faded, and even the little puppy in the woman’s arms started shaking. But the man didn’t want to back down; that would be too humiliating, so he clenched his teeth and shot back, “What’s it to you?”

Lu Yuling was full of confidence. “That’s my girlfriend’s mom. What’s it to me?”

The man understood it was not good to mess with the young man, so he pushed away his arrogant behaviour and tried to reason with the other. “Your girlfriend’s mom ran over my girlfriend’s dog. What do you think we should do about it?”

Before Lu Yuling could respond, Yu Wenyin sneered and asked, “Are you really sure I hit your dog?”

The rich guy wanted to answer confidently, but just then, the young man slammed the car door and marched over with a dark expression.

The young woman was nervous, fearing the boy was there to stir up trouble, so she quickly said, “No, no.”

The rich guy’s expression soured immediately, and he unleashed all his frustration on the woman, shouting, “Didn’t you just say the car ran over the dog?!”

In reality, the dog wasn’t hit by the car. The woman was just trying to scam money. Now that her lie was out in the open, she was shocked and scared. “I was wrong; I was wrong…”

Lu Yuling stood next to Li Xining.

The nouveau riche raised his hand and slapped the woman hard on the head. “You shameless bastard, come home with me!” After that, he rushed to his car.

But Lu Yuling wasn’t about to let the man off the hook. He stepped in front of the nouveau riche’s car door, glared at him coldly, and said in a threatening tone, “Can you leave like this? Have you apologised?”

The man had no choice but to grit his teeth, turn around, and say to Yu Wenyin, “I’m sorry.”

The woman trailing behind him quickly added. “I’m sorry.”

Only then did Lu Yuling move aside.

After apologising, both the man and woman hurriedly hopped into the car and sped off.

After the period was over, Lu Yuling quickly changed from a tough bully to a polite, sensible, and obedient kid. He quietly went back to his car, opened the trunk, pulled out some stuff, and got to work without a single complaint.

Yu Wenyin glanced at Lu Yuling and suddenly felt more favourable towards him. Then she looked at her daughter with disdain. “You really have no manners at all. Yuling is busy over there, and you’re just standing here like a fool. Can’t you lend a hand and help?”

“???” Li Xining was totally confused. She felt like her mom switched her attitude faster than flipping a page. ‘Just yesterday, she was calling him “little brat”, so why is she now so nice to “Yuling”?’

“What are you doing? Go on, hurry up!” Seeing her daughter still standing there, Yu Wenyin scolded her. 

Li Xining didn’t dare to defy the Queen Mother’s command and walked over to Lu Yuling with reluctance. Once she got to Lu Yuling’s side, she let all her frustration out on him. “I hate you!” She whispered, fearing her mother would hear her. 

Lu Yuling didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “What did I do wrong?”

Li Xining shot him a glare, indignantly saying, “My mom said I was tactless and just stood there like an idiot instead of helping you with your stuff!”

Lu Yuling raised his eyebrows and said proudly, “What’s that saying? The more the mother-in-law looks at her son-in-law, the more she likes him.”

Li Xining wasn’t convinced. “You’re just a troublemaker!”

Just a moment ago, Yu Wenyin’s car was only halfway reversed when it got interrupted by the nouveau riche, so now she had to get back in the car and keep reversing.

Although Mr. Li and Mrs. Li did not get out of the car just now, they have been observing the movements outside. After their daughter-in-law got in the car, Mrs. Li said with a sigh and a sense of relief, “There must be a man in this family. Fortunately, Yuling was here today; otherwise, I don’t know how those two would cause trouble.”

Mr. Li turned his face to the car window, looked at Lu Yuling not far away and said, “Yes, he is quite capable.”

Yu Wenyin replied, “Whether it is useful or not is secondary. What matters is that he can be good to our little one for the rest of his life.”

Mr. Li was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, “I want to see our youngest get married.”

Yu Wenyin understood that older folks tend to share their feelings as they age, especially in a place like a cemetery, so she quickly smiled and reassured him, “Can she really stay single forever? Don’t worry; you’ll definitely see it.”

Mr. Li let out a sigh, saying, “Then we need to get her married soon. I’m already eighty years old. Seventy-three, eighty-four – those are all big milestones.”

He was anxious about not making it past the age of 84 and feared he wouldn’t get to see his beloved granddaughter’s family in person, so he asked her to take Lu Yuling to visit her father’s grave soon.

After hearing this, Mrs. Li shot him a glare and gave him a good whack on the leg. “Look at you, you old man. What nonsense are you spouting again?”
